Coloring in My Coloring Books for Inktober

If you have been around this blog long enough, you will know that I get excited for craft challenges. I like the idea of pushing myself a little each day to explore new mediums or master old ones. So this year, I have been thinking about Inktober. What is Inktober you ask? Jake Parker created Inktober in 2009 as a challenge to improve his inking skills and develop positive drawing habits. It has since grown into a worldwide endeavor with thousands of artists taking on the challenge every year.

Another thing you might know about me is I like to stretch challenges to fit my needs whether it’s a reading or crafting challenge, I always find a way to make it work for me.

So I am stretching this challenge to include my colored pencils and inks in my coloring books. That way I can also meet one of my personal goals which is to color more of my coloring books. Which we all know I have quite a large collection.

For the Inktober challenge you are supposed to draw each day. So I went through my coloring books and found one that might make the challenge less challenging for me. It is called. Matchstick Mouse – A Halloween coloring book and Matchstick Mouse – An Autumn coloring book. The images are really small and simple. So I might be able to complete one in a day or two.

Despite the fact that I am starting late, I will try to post a few days a week of the pages I color in this book for the remainder of the month.

Let’s see how many I can complete by the end of October. Let me know if you are participating in this challenge.

Happy coloring!

What’s On Your Workdesk Wednesday – #491

Good morning my crafty WOYWW friends! For those of you that aren’t familiar with WOYWW (What’s On Your Workdesk Wednesday), head on over to Julia’s Stamping Ground and you will find desks from all around the world for What’s on Your Workdesk Wednesday where we get to snoop on other crafter’s desks.

It’s Halloween here and I didn’t let it slip by without a little decorating in my craft room. I put up my little signs and cut out bats on my Silhouette to hang in my book nook.

That’s as scary as I get. I don’t care much for the creepy stuff but I didn’t want to pass up the opportunity to spice up my craft room a bit.

Now on to my desk. I was working on a little coloring yesterday while my boys worked on their homework. This coloring book is the beautiful ‘Ivy and the Inky Butterfly by Johanna Basford. I love how this is both a storybook and coloring book.

You can see my color combinations I wrote them out as I used them. I discovered a few that will definitely be added to my favorites list. You can also see some of my Nuvo drops. I went crazy and snagged a bunch a few months ago and although they are similar to Ranger’s Distress Stickles, oh they are so much more. So I am having a blast playing with them. You can also see my Prisma color swatches that I always have on hand when I color.

I am still working on my commissioned project and yesterday I made some good progress. I will continue once I finish this post so once again I will take a few days to get around to desk visits.

I hope you all have a wonderful day and Happy Halloween!

Tag Tuesday: #1 – A Little Witch

Oct28_2014a

Today I am starting a new blog series called, “Tag Tuesday”. Right now tags seem to be another hot item and I thought I might as well join in since I have plenty of product to spare!

I will aim to post a tag each Tuesday.  I say aim because sometimes, holidays and my boys being home sick might prevent this from occurring but I am going to give it my best shot.

With Halloween fast approaching I thought I would use that as a theme for my tags.  I have a shelf in my craft room that I have been placing all of my fall and Halloween paper craft items and these cuties are on there now.

Oct28_2014b

This first tag I made with some non-traditional Halloween colors. But I liked how it came out.

Ingredients for this first tag:

  • My Minds Eye Collectable  6×6 Paper Pad “Unforgetable”
  • Kraft cardstock for the base
  • Whimsy Stamps digi called “Halloween Witchy Girl”
  • Some sequins from my stash
  • and letter stickers
  • twine
  • Copics to color the little witch

The beauty of using digis are that you can resize them to fit whatever size project you are working on. But I recently discovered something amazing too. I can flip them horizontally in my Silhouette before printing and their orientation is different. See how she is facing different ways on each tag? But this is only one file. So that is something you definitely can not do with a clear or rubber stamp image.

The ingredients for the second tag:

  • Pebbles “Thirty One” 6×6 paper pad
  • Black cardstock for the base
  • the same digi from Whimsy Stamps
  • twine
  • and of course my Copics to color her up

I had fun making them and they will help put a dent in my paper stash and scraps since it is a small surface to work on.  Not sure what I will make next week but be sure to take a peek and see what I will make.

Have a blessed day and keep crafting!

Confessions of a Scrapbook Kit Hoarder…#12

Hello Everyone!

Welcome to my blog series, “Confessions of a Scrapbook Kit Hoarder“. If you haven’t already, please read The Intervention so you can understand the inspiration for this craft adventure.

Very excited to use up some of my letter stickers I have been hoarding!

Very excited to use up some of my letter stickers I have been hoarding for the title!

I have another scrapbook layout to share with you.  I am on a roll making layouts. I can’t wait until I feel the confidence I used to have when I made layouts. Still grappling with doubt while designing.

This layout is so special to me. The background to this layout is that a few years ago, they had this animated series called ‘Avatar the Last Airbender’ on television. All of my brother in-laws and one of my sister-in-laws kept on raving about this show. I didn’t pay much attention to it.  My husband bought the DVDs for season 1, 2 and 3 and I still didn’t watch. Then this summer, my boys started watching and I  finally did too.  Let’s just say from the first episode I was hooked. So we watched all the of the disks and became big Avatar fans.

Ok, it is official - I am lovin' the enamel dots from My Mind's Eye.

So when Halloween came around, I knew what they would choose as their costumes – characters from the show. So I ordered the costumes and my brother–in-law handmade a glider for Nicholas to go with his costume.  So amazing. As soon as they put on their costumes on they became their characters. It was so much fun. I am sure they will get a lot of wear out of these costumes.

Second layout with October kit.

Second layout with October kit.

For the layout I used the October kit’s papers and added some My Mind’s Eye enamel dots and Evalicious paper tabs from my stash for added accents.  I also used three different letter stickers from my stash which really makes me happy because I sure can hoard letter stickers!

Have a blessed weekend friends!
