Inky Play Friday – Painting with Distress Inks

It’s that time…time to play with some inks! Today I am painting with Distress Oxide ink pads. I am always so inspired to craft when I watch craft videos on YouTube. I have been really into my oxide ink pads for the past few months so I have been watching videos where crafters are using them in a variety of ways.

The first thing I did was select some coordinating colors that would look nice on the blue background. Then I heat embossed the ornaments and sentiment with white embossing powder. Then I applied blueprint sketch color onto the back. At first, I was going for a solid background then I started to like the way the lighter areas almost looked like a glowing effect and left it.

Next, was the fun part – painting with the ink. So I rubbed a bit of twisted citron onto my glass mat, gave it a few squirts of water, and then painted the first ornament. It was so relaxing and easy because the embossing keeps your color right where it’s supposed to be. If you haven’t painted with your Distress ink pads, you really should, it’s very fun.

For the first card, I drew the strings with a sparkle pop pen and then used Wink of Stella to give the ornaments a hint of shimmer.

For the second card, I searched my stash for coordinating glitter pens to color in some of the ornaments for a cool contrast.

Here is a close-up so you can see the glitter pens on the second card. I love how they came out. It reminds me of old-fashioned glass ornaments my mother used to hang on the Christmas tree.

I will be sure to incorporate these techniques in future cards because it was really fun.

Have a wonderful weekend!

12 Days of Holiday Cards and Crafts: Day 4 – Special Delivery

day4_Mrs_Santa1Good afternoon and welcome to day four of my 12 Days of Holiday Cards and Crafts! I apologize for the delay but for the last few days I have been having internet access problems so today’s post is late.

Today I bring you another card I created.  I used a digi from Tiddly Inks.  I love these stamps. She has a bunch and she is having a great sale on both clear and digi stamps so take a peek.  I used my Silhouette to create the shape of the box and used the print and cut feature so that my image was printed directly on the cardstock and then cut in the shape you see. Then I colored up the image with my copics.

day4_Mrs_Santa2Ok and let’s talk a minute about paper hoarders, yes, I am guilty of charge and I find that I especially like to hoard my Christmas papers like my friend Ashley. She and I vow each year that we have enough and won’t buy anymore and what? They seem to jump in our carts and home they come. Total sucker for pretty paper especially pretty Christmas paper. Enough of that rant. That said, this paper I used for this card is one of those highly hoarded by me.  It is called Nordic Pines by Bazzill Basics. Oh my goodness, all the paper in this pad are gorgeous. I mean it, every sheet is gorgeous. So I had a hard time cutting a sheet (baby steps).  I matted it on a cream cardstock and used Stampin Up paper for the card base. I decided to use some kraft envelopes in my stash since they match this paper so nicely.

day4_Mrs_Santa3My props were holiday table runners and a little tree I usually put on a shelf in the living room.

day4_Mrs_Santa4I put matching cream cardstock inside for the person to write their greetings since the card has a black base. I also used small pieces of coordinating paper attached to the corners of the paper for added interest.

I hope you like this card as much as I do. Even if I did have to cut a piece of my prized stash!!

Sending blessings your way!

What’s on Your Workdesk Wednesday – #182

Hello Everyone!

Wow, what a week. We had a great holiday with family. Great food fun and lots of games played.

Project Life in overdrive

Speed Project Life – Yup, that’s what is happening on my desk. I have managed to get behind farther than I care to admit but ego has me pushing through to complete it by December 18th. That’s my date. I am going away for holiday so I need to have it completed by then.  I will at the vacation week when I get home.  So I am going through the photos and printing them and then going back later to journal and pretty them up.

Working on new card.

I am working on yet another Christmas card. I had this image colored up for weeks so now I am finally giving it at home.  I found a sketch I liked in a magazine so I am going to use it as a guide.    Yes that is  a chocolate bar you see. Can’t a girl have

Well I think the general theme for me until after the New Year, is short and sweet posts.

If you haven’t learned about this amazing creative journey you can take every Wednesday, then head on over to Julia’s Stamping Ground and you will find desks from all around the world for What’s on Your Workdesk Wednesday.

Have a blessed day!

Belinda
