“Baby It’s Cold Outside”

thetempPart of my responsibility as a parent is to use logic to make judgement calls for my family, particularly the boys.  This morning I woke to this temp on my iPhone.  Many schools cancelled school in the area and I waited for ours to follow suit but as luck would have it, it didn’t happen. So I had a decision to make – bring them to school and dismiss them early so I don’t catch frost bite at pick up or keep them home for the day and provide an educational environment at home.

studiesWell my gut said, “Baby it’s cold outside, keep them home”.  So I armed myself with a few of our many workbooks and divided up sections I wanted them to work on throughout the day. After they were dressed and ate breakfast, I explained the cold weather and that today the school is open so we are not on holiday we are just going to work at home.  Then I gave them their first assignments. Nicholas would be focusing on his writing skills in the morning and reading skills in the afternoon.  Apollo would work on a little math, test prep in the morning and reading and cursive in the afternoon.

studyingFor reading in the afternoon, I took one boy at a time into my Reading Nook. Apollo and I read “World of Birds: A Beginner’s Guide“. I love birding and I want to teach him more so it is a wonderful book with amazing illustrations. He enjoyed it and I added a fun element to keep his interest. We used SIRI to look up the bird calls of the birds as we read about them. Because I want him to learn this information, we stopped after reading about Cardinals and will revisit to continue tomorrow.

For Nicholas, we begin listening to “The Emerald Atlas” audio book and I had him take notes to help enhance his listening skills. We listened to the prologue today and will continue a little each day until we complete the book.

Despite a bit of protest, I am convinced they liked the structure. I even provided a snack and lunch break and we finished our day promptly at 3;00.

Tomorrow back to school and I feel good that it was a productive day.

Not a bad day of homeschooling at the Fernandes’ house!

Have a great day everyone!

Happy New Year!!!

Hello Everyone!! I hope you had a wonderful holiday and vacation. I had a great time. I spent it with family and tried to cherish every minute. The boys loved spending more time with family and of course receiving some gifts.

So many plans are rushing through my head for this new year. I am currently working on some designs for new product lines for Belinda’s Crafts and will be sure to keep you posted when I release them.

I am also working on redesign concepts for this blog and some restructuring.

I already made one change, by adding a new link from the main page directly to Belinda’s Book Nook. Look up on the top navigation bar.  I did this because I noticed I really read a lot last year and want to share more of my book happenings with you all. However, for my book blog friends, it will be easier for them to navigate directly to my book blog with a direct link. It can also be accessed on the right sidebar in the categories box but I find some people aren’t aware and don’t use that navigation as much. So I will be restructuring to make this blog more simple to navigate.

I also will be flushing out a new posting schedule that will include a lot more content in the three main areas of this site:

  • Blog –  Where I will post general stuff and family happenings as well as my thoughts on things.
  • Project –  This will include much of the crafty happenings including but not limited to: Silhouette Sunday, Cardmaking, Creative Play, Copic Coloring, Hauls, Project Life, Product announcements
  • Book Nook – This is where I will have all things book related including but not limited to: Reviews, Hauls and other weekly features.

I hope you all are well and I look forward to another amazing year!

Have a blessed day!

12 Days of Holiday Cards and Crafts: Day 12 – Holiday Teacups Card & Bookmark

day12_teacup_trio_cardand_mGood afternoon and welcome to day twelve of my 12 Days of Holiday Cards and Crafts! What? I did it.  This has been a fun challenge. On one of the busiest months of the year, I managed to post different projects daily for 12 days.  No easy task in this house.  So I am thrilled and so happy you rode on this wild journey with me.

I officially will be on vacation beginning December 23 but until then I will have a few posts here and there. In the new year, I will resume a regular schedule with some new blog series.

day12_teacup_trio_cardand_2Today’s project was a Teacup holiday card and bookmark. You know how much I love teacups and this stamp set from Flourishes was mine once they put them in their shop.

I used Stampin Up cardstock as my card base and ‘Tis the Season’ patterned paper from Echo Park.  I included a small strip inside for continuity.  I wasted no paper and used the remaining of 6×6 paper to make a matching bookmark.  I love the end result and no scraps to throw away was a bonus.

I hope you have a blessed day and Happy Hanukkah to my friends that celebrate today.

12 Days of Holiday Cards and Crafts: Day 11 – Deer Holiday card

day11_dear_card1Good afternoon and welcome to day eleven of my 12 Days of Holiday Cards and Crafts! Wow, we are almost finished with this series.  It has been a fun challenge for me and I hope you’ve enjoyed it too.

Today’s project is a card created with Silhouette files. I saw this card on the Silhouette blog and I had to make it. It’s really simple and elegant without a lot of fuss. One confession I have to make is that I just realized I forgot to attach the little red bow that goes around the deer’s neck before I took and processed these photos. (Sorry).

day11_dear_card2I love the simple color palette. I like nature cards and this one is really even prettier in person.  I attached this files to a 4.25 inch  square card base.

day11_dear_card3The other great thing is that I definitely see me using all the components of this file in separate projects in the near future. That’s one thing I look for when purchasing Silhouette files is the diverse amount of ways to use them.

I photographed this card on the carpet in my craft room with the closet door behind.  Nothing fancy today. Just wanted to focus on the card.

This weekend we picked up our Christmas tree. We often go and cut our own tree but feeling so rushed, we decided to buy local. I will share some photos soon of Apollo and I decorating it.

I hope you had a great weekend and have a blessed day!
