From the Cafe…A storm is brewing

The calm before the storm or should I say the chaos before the storm? Well it is a bit chaotic here. We have a big snow storm coming and everyone is preparing for the worst. The meteorologists are like kids in a candy store. All smiles while they say this will be a historic storm with 24 – 36 inches and winds as high as 60mph and power outages.  Historic? Did they really say that? I do believe it is good to prepare people but the choice of words can make or break a mob.

I opted out of grocery shopping yesterday because I figured the stores would be mobbed. I went this morning and let’s just say, I wasn’t in there with a few stay-at-home moms and retired seniors, I was in there with a big old line of people. So I’m leaning a little toward the Chaos in answer to my initial question.

For me, I have mixed feelings. We have had a rather easy winter to this point, no real snow just really cold air. So a part of me is so thrilled that I can watch the storm from the comfort of my home. It’s beautiful watching snow fall. I especially like the big chunkie flakes.  I like being cozy under a blanket with the boys and Leao close and of course a good book to dive into.

There’s also a bit of a thrill of the possibility of a snow day for the boys.  Last night, I told them to charge all of there devices and find their book lights so that if we lose power they have more options. I feel there is a beauty in the absolute silence that power outages bring. I’m not saying for long periods of time but for just one moment I like to hear what total silence is like, no humming sound from all the appliances, nothing. It’s beautiful to have total silence. We rarely experience it. What we typically call silence, is not.

I am at the Barnes and Noble cafe typing this and looking out the big window at the tiny flakes falling and the ease at which the traffic flows now.  When in 24 hours, this ease will vanish but only for a little while so I prepare to enjoy it before the feeling of dread sets in and the shovels come out.

If you live in the path of this storm, be safe and have a blessed day my friends.

Fun Photos Friday #31: Simple things in Life

Make time

LIFE

funphotosfriday0123_2015On Monday, I took the boys to Barnes and Noble for our usual book adventures. Nicholas immediately went to the book shelf to find a book he knew was being released to see if it had arrived. Apollo went to the opposite section of the children’s book area. I stopped to look around the vast selection of books that kids can access at this bookstore. I am always impressed by the amount of books available to children now and it makes me smile. When I looked up from the books, I peeked and immediately saw Nicholas then I started down the aisles to look for Apollo.

Then I spotted him…sitting so peacefully on the floor reading a fun picture book about crayons.  I didn’t say anything. I just watched him. He was so comfortable at this place filled with books and so engrossed in the story. I immediately put my phone on silent and took at picture. It’s the simple things like Apollo grabbing a book, plopping down and diving into the story that warmed my heart. Life is beautiful.

Have a blessed Friday friends!

Happy Martin Luther King Jr. day!

Hello Everyone! I hope you had a wonderful weekend. We have a long weekend here with the celebration of Martin Luther King day here. So it has been nice having more time to play, relax and regroup.  I spent some time reading and yesterday, a grocery run to three different grocery stores (yes, I have issues) to get the week’s food. I used to plan whole weeks ahead for our meals and then shop one day with no stress for the rest of the week. But somewhere during the holidays, it fell apart.  So I am feeling positive about this week. More time for family.

Today I am planning on sprinkling in some fun education and activities to celebrate Martin Luther King’s birthday. First thing I will do is remind them is that his actual birthday is January 15th. Then we might read a book on The March on Washington that I think I saw Apollo take out from the library on Friday. A little craft would be great and I have recorded a show from PBS on The March on Washington so we could watch that. Then we can talk about it and also the similarities and differences between the book presentation and the television. I want to know what they know from school and then take them further.

So let’s see how far I can get through the activities I plan for them today.

Hope you all have a blessed day and have time to reflect on a very special man named Martin Luther King Jr. today.

Happy Monday from Barnes and Noble!

happymonday0112_2015

Hello Everyone! Happy Monday from Barnes and Noble. With my new work schedule, I am trying to schedule time in to work on more blog posts. Monday is the designated day so I thought I would drive over to one of my favorite places to work and read – Barnes and Noble. So naturally I had to order my Chai and today I am also treating myself to a scone (something I have been avoiding for some time).

I work in my home office most of the time but since working on my blog requires only me and my computer, I can go anywhere. So I have decided that working one day out of my home office might be a nice change. Besides, I love being around all these books!

I had a great weekend with Leao for his birthday weekend while the boys stayed with my in-laws.  On Saturday afternoon, we watched the Patriot’s game and talk about stress. What a stressful game to watch even if in the end it did work out for the Pats. I found myself covering my eyes and saying all sorts of prayers at certain points in the game. Then we went out to dinner at a new Japanese restaurant.

Well I have to get back to work but I hope you had a wonderful weekend and do check in for some new posts this week.

Have a blessed day my friend.
