Hello and happy first day of October! It sure is cloudy outside my window. Rain is in the forecast for this afternoon so I ran out and took a picture of one of my giant Dahlias. Isn’t it so pretty? I love how this one looks like it has lighting inside. I am definitely going to use this photo of the flower for inspiration when I color up a dahlia image.
Had a great weekend. My oldest turned 15 this weekend and I truly can’t believe it’s that long ago I was pregnant with him. Where ever does the time go? We took him out to dinner to a restaurant of his choice and then on Sunday, we went to celebrate with his grandparents.
I received a bunch of new craaft products last week so I spent a little time on Sunday testing them out. I will write some posts and show you what craftiness I have been up to. I also spent time reading and finished another book so I need to gather my thoughts so I can write a review.

So many years ago, I read Edwidge Danticat’s “Krik Krak” and was so moved by how at such a young age, Edwidge wrote with so much feeling and rawness that I knew I had to read more. I ended up buying more of her books but not reading them.
Some of the books she has written that I still need to read are:
Another author that I have read a lot of books is Susanna Kearsley. I started with Mariana and never looked back.
Another author that I have read and enjoyed and need to catch up on is Kristin Hannah. I have only read The Nightingale but I loved it. 
So I picked up several of her books in my last birthday book haul and have yet to read them.
Hello and happy Monday! Great week and weekend. Last week, we finally made it out on a date night. We haven’t gone in months so it was really fun. We tried a new Spanish Restuarant and I think I ate everything on the tapas menu!!
Oh and happy fall! I love autumn and the fall flowers are a favorite so I drove to my favorite garden center on Friday and bought up a bunch of mums to plant around my garden. I planted yellow mums in the front between my Coreopsis. I thought the yellow was a better choice to make things pop.
I planted alternating purple and yellow in pots at the end of my driveway. As they fully bloom they will be a welcome burst of color when we drive into our driveway.
I planted this amazing pink mum. Yes, I can’t believe they are pink. They remind me of Dahlias or Zinnias. I planted them in pots near my veggie beds. I picked plants with plenty of buds that had not opened yet. Because I love to watch the color burst over time.
I also planted three new maroon flowers in my rear raised bed. I am not sure how well they will do. I think they get enough sun but in the past, they don’t do well on the sloped ground. They get lanky and lean too much for my taste. But maybe since I put them lower, they might thrive. These are the colors that make my heart melt. I love the deep color and can’t wait for them all to bloom.
I like seeing mums in the fall. They really brighten up the landscape before winter approaches.
