Fun Photos Friday #19: Family Math Night

funphotofriday19

I am the first to admit that I am not very good at math. Some might say awful when referring to my lame math skills, but I believe there is still hope for me.  I know when I am buying things and they are on sale, I may take more time than others but I am generally in the ballpark with my estimates.

So last night when I attended my first Family Math Night at my son’s school, I was a bit nervous. Hoping my lack of brilliance in the numbers department would not be exposed. I went so far as to split the boys up so that my youngest who is 6 would walk with me and we would play age-appropriate math games while my husband took our oldest who is 10.

I have to say it was a lot of fun and we even picked up a nice packet of games to play at home (Maybe there is still hope for me!).

Well have a blessed weekend!

Title: The Recipe Box
Author: Sandra Lee
Copyright: July 2, 2013
Genre: fiction
Format: audiobook

Synopsis (from publisher):

From New York Times bestselling author Sandra Lee comes her debut novel, a heartwarming story about food, family, and forgiveness.

Grace Holm-D’Angelo is at her wit’s end, trying to create a new life from broken pieces. Newly divorced, she is navigating suddenly becoming a single mother to her fourteen-year-old daughter. Emma, resentful about being uprooted from Chicago to LA and still reeling from the divorce, is generally giving her mother a hard time.

Then Grace’s best friend, Leeza, succumbs to breast cancer after a long battle, and Grace realizes that you don’t get a second chance at life. She returns to her hometown of New London, Wisconsin, to try to reconcile with her own mother, Lorraine, with whom she’s been estranged for longer than she cares to remember.

Over the course of the summer, Grace rediscovers the healing powers of cooking, coming to terms with your past, and friendship, and learns you can go home again, and sometimes that’s exactly where you belong.

My review:

I listened to this audio book on my Nook HD.  I came across it while snooping around my Overdrive account. OverDrive, Inc. is an American digital distributor of eBooks, audio books, music, and video titles. Over a year ago I went to a tutorial at my local library on how to connect my e-reader to my local library to check out books.  Once I installed it, I became a quick fan. Since then,  I borrow many books through Overdrive.

I read the description for this audio book and thought it would be a fun one to listen to. I thought it would be a good book to listen to while I read my new book club selection and a book a friend lent me a while ago.  I also loved the cover of the book. The beautiful wooden recipe box and the lovely flowers definitely caught my attention.  The book description above from the publisher left no room for surprises but I still managed to enjoy listening to the story.

I enjoyed how the author shared the strong bonds of friendship and family in this book. The main character Grace had such supportive  friends and while I listened to it, I though of all the strength I draw from my dear friends.  My only complaint is that at times the reader’s male voice impression was a bit distracting so I would lose focus for a second and then moved on.

If you need a quick audio to listen to while riding in the car that is predictable but still warm, then this might be a good selection.

80th Birthday Card

80thbirthdaycard

Hello! Happy Monday! I hope you all had a great weekend.  The boys had their vacation week this past week and so we ended our week attending two birthday parties yesterday.  My best friend from college’s mother was celebrating her 80th birthday.   I made this card for her since she did not want any gifts. We all had fun and then after a few hours we went to celebrate my brother-in-laws birthday where my mother-in-law had prepared a delicious meal and made a home-made cake.

I used two different Flourishes’ stamps to create this card. I look forward to using the numbers (Numbers in Blossom) again for more birthday cards.

Have a blessed day!

Silhouette Sunday #7: Online Resources

onlineresourcesHello! Happy Sunday!  I am in the process of preparing for a 4-day crafting retreat in a few weeks so I don’t have any recent projects to share but I thought I might share with you some online resources that I like.

The first is called SVGCuts. Wow is the first thing I say each time I visit their site. This husband and wife team rock!  They sell cut-files of the most amazing things. Peek around at their gallery if you need more inspiration.  I recently bought a teapot set and will be sure to share pictures when I complete it. Perhaps I will take it with me to the craft retreat. This site is so great because when you buy the files you get a beautiful PDF step by step instructions and most of the times they have assembly videos.  I own a Silhouette Portrait and for most of their files they include additional files so that I can still make everything and they will end up the same size as if I cut it on the Cameo.

Another site I like is called Lettering Delights (LD) and they provide a variety of things including fonts.  You can sign up for their email notifications weekly for updates and free files.

Monica’s Creative Room is another site that has free cut files.  She does as for donations if you use the files for commercial purposes. She has a bunch of different categories to choose from and then you download them right to your machine. Maybe I could do a demo of how to download files from other sites and how to import them into Silhouette in a future post.

Well I am off to continue planning what to bring for the retreat!

Have a blessed day!

Belinda
