Happy Monday: School vacation has come to an end.

Good morning, everyone! Right this moment while typing this post, I’m sipping one of my favorite Tea Guys tea and it’s called peppermint chocolate vanilla, a yummy Rooibos blend. The store that I normally buy it from had been out of it for a while so I was really surprised to see it there today so I snatched it up so I could have a cup today. The aroma alone makes me happy.

It’s been a while since I’ve been in blog land. We had our February vacation last week and I took the entire week off from work to hang out with my family. As many of you may know, I work out of my home office. One of the many challenges is to not blur the line between work and play so I really made an effort this time to avoid my office and my laptop computer so that I could really be present for my family. It worked and I feel very refreshed and ready to get back to my work routine. That’s not to say that I’m happy vacation has ended because I really had a good time.

We had a staycation which included watching movies together at home and having friends come over for hanging out. We visited a new comic book store and even slept over my in-laws’ home for a few nights where we played games and of course ate her delicious food. One day, we took a drive and spent the day hanging out at Dave and Busters playing games and eating yummy burgers and fries. We took the boys and my in-laws to go to the movie theater to see the movie Hidden Figures which was a great activity for celebrating BHM with the kids. They learned quite a bit from the movie. You know me so I also had to make time to sit and have reading time with the boys. and we all read our books and comics. We took a ride to go and visit the new Apple store that opened near us.

I was so thrilled yesterday when both of my boys told me they had a great week.  This is very important to me because my goal was a relaxing week sprinkled with fun activities and I think we were successful.  The weather was so amazing for much of the vacation and on three of the days it was warm enough to be without a coat and our neighbor’s kids came over and played outside with the boys while Leao and I caught up on the local happenings with our neighbors.

I also managed to do a bit of reading and tried to wrap up some of the books and the things that I wanted to read during Black History Month. I didn’t finish them all so I will just read the remaining books throughout the year as normal. I do have a few book reviews from last month that I haven’t had the chance to post.  So you should be on the lookout for those reviews.

Spring is in the air, and with that, my mind just begins filling with ideas of home-improvement projects and garden planning. Stay tuned for more on that.

This week, I’ll get back onto a regular posting schedule, as well as, my regular work schedule first. I hope you were all well this past week and look forward to meeting up with you again here this week. Have a blessed day!

Happy Monday – Trying to Keep the Ship Afloat!

Hello, everyone! How are you all doing? I apologize for my absence but this past week was a whirlwind.  Last Sunday, my team won the Superbowl and I was so excited and ready to celebrate. I had so many deadlines and things to do last week and bam – a major snow storm hit simultaneously with my oldest son, getting sick and then it’s been downhill since then. The photo above was taken during our first storm and we have had a lot of snow since. We have had three snow days (including today) which I secretly love. But then Leao got sick on Friday and now I am pretty sure my hands will fall off because of all the washing I have been doing to avoid going down with the ship.  You know moms can’t get sick so I am doing my best to stay ahead of this stuff.

Despite the sickness, we have been having fun. We read African American poetry, watched a great movie called “The Watson’s Go to Birmingham” which is based on a best-selling book of the same name that touched on race relations in this country and we watched the NAACP image awards on television together. So despite the occasional cabin fever, we have been able to celebrate Black History Month together.

I will cut this short because I have to get to work but I wanted to connect and wish you a blessed day!

Happy Monday!

Good morning!! How are you today? Are you feeling happy or dragging about just a bit?  Despite a scare this weekend with my mother-in-law, I am feeling really peppy. Almost annoyingly so. I have my instrumental holiday music playing today at work and that and my tea has me in a good mood.

As I mentioned, my mother-in-law gave us quite a scare this weekend. She experienced really high blood pressure along with a few other symptoms that led her to the emergency room.  She’s home now, feeling better and I am scheduling some follow-up appointments for her to ensure her well-being. She is a pretty healthy woman so this took us all by surprise. Yesterday I bought groceries and we went over and cooked dinner and spent time with her and my father-in-law. I’d like to think my cooking was the magic but the grand kids seem to cure all.  I am really excited for her because in a few weeks, she will be flying to Florida to spend the holiday with our family out there and she will get to yum up her other grand kids. So there’s some more medicine for the soul coming her way!

I also spent Saturday with my crafty girlfriends (Ashley you were missed!) and eating homemade soups, and of course major desserts was great fun. I primarily worked on my faith journal. I will have to take some pictures to share with you. It’s a fun art journal I created to contain great quotes from the book Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert. I also have one I use with quotes from my spiritual studies. It’s a fun visual way to place these words in front of me more often.

Today I need to chug away at more Chirstmas cards. This is the latest I have been at getting them out! I am only hand making a few and the rest are boxed cards but I still have managed to let it slip! Oh well.

By the way, the photograph above is of Jingle our Elf on the Shelf and yesterday he sat on top or our mini tree in the kitchen and Leao thinks he might not choose this location again from the splinters in his butt!

I am off to get some work done! Have a blessed day my friends.

Happy Monday – December 5th

dec5aGood morning everyone! Wow didn’t last week really fly by? I mean time goes faster or so it seems as we get older but last week was a blink! I hope you’re all doing well. Well it’s officially December and we are rocking around trying to get ourselves ready for the holidays. Last week I pulled out all of our lights and Leao checked them to make sure that no bulbs needed to be replaced.  Then this weekend we hung them up and we also winterized our deck. We got the boys to help but let me tell you my boys are not interested in cleaning or putting things away. So it’s kind of like pulling teeth from time to time. But in the end we got it done so it was worth it.dec5fI’m really glad that we winterized the deck this weekend because we woke up to the white stuff out there this morning. It’s just a coating right now but it’s just reminds me of what’s to come. As much as I complain about snow I secretly love days when it snows and we know it’s gonna be a snow day and I can sit in my craft room and just look out the window down the street at all the pretty snow as it falls down. Knowing that I don’t have to actually go anywhere always makes snow so much more acceptable. But the days that I have to shovel, run errands, do drop off and pick up, and shovel again, those are the days snow and I simply aren’t friends!

dec5b We had fun this weekend at my in-laws and watching our quarterback make history to become the all-time quarterback wins with his 201st win yesterday. That was a good way to end the weekend ok and maybe a little piece of pie that I ate helped too (don’t hate).dec5d

Last week, I decorated the inside of our home with Christmas decorations and was feeling the red and gold this year so there’s an abundance of it in my house right now. Love it or hate it that’s how I’m rolling with it this year.  I usually decorate when the boys are at home but I decided last week to wait until they went to school and spent much of the day putting tings away amnd putting out the new decor. I even made them some chocolate cupcakes so that the house smelled good when they came home. It was really fun to see their reaction when they came into the house and saw all the decorations and the smells of chocolate in the air. I know I always remembered that with my mom. I loved coming home from school to her baking and the house filled with decorations she would put up for the holidays. It made it feel so special.  I hope that these things will stick with them throughout their lifetime like it has mine.dec5e I also finished a book that I was reading that took me forever to read so I should be putting a book review up this week for it. So be on the lookout. I already started another book this weekend that is just a pleasure to read and  it’s a real quick fast read so it’s just what I needed right after that heavy book I read for the past few weeks.

We stopped by to see our town’s annual tree lighting and I took this picture of the boys capturing the moment for themselves. This year we were smart and showed up close to the time rather than freeze like we did last year.

I hope you’re all doing well and wish for you a blessed week!
