What’s on Your Workdesk Wednesday #583

on my desk…

Hello, my crafty friends! It’s Wednesday and you know what time it is. Time to snoop. For those of you that aren’t familiar with WOYWW (What’s On Your Workdesk Wednesday), head on over to Julia’s Stamping Ground and you will find desks from all around the world where we get to snoop on other crafter’s desks.

Good morning!! Yesterday we had high winds and rain and then the humidity dropped and the wind continued into the night so winds open for a lovely sleep. I am typing fast because today my crafty girlfriends are having an extra Zoom session today in addition to our weekly Saturday sessions. I have some work to complete before then. I think we are going to begin after 1 which will work out perfectly if I can hunker down after writing this post. Of course, my desk photo above is the hot mess I left it in since yesterday.

I have decided to create a spreadsheet to help me manage and plan my inventory for the re-opening of my Etsy shop. I sometimes tend to make more cards in one category so this will help make sure I have them all filled. I am a mood reader with books as well as crafting so sometimes I go on a binge in one direction. So I am creating a spreadsheet on Excel and my husband is going to help me make into a lovely form that will really help me keep on track.

Above is some happy mail that arrived yesterday. I wanted some nice stickers to use in my personal journal and I ordered these lovelies off of Amazon. They are vellum stickers and they blend in so nicely inside my journal.

I didn’t stick these down yet but I wanted you to see how lovely they are and how they blend so nicely and they are thin so I don’t have to worry about them bulking up the pages or messing with my handwriting. They have beautiful plants, flowers and butterflies!

Speaking of butterflies. Below you can see one of the things I was playing around with last Saturday. I used my Distress oxides, a stencil and a bookmark to play around. They ended up pretty cute.

Yesterday I began replenishing my cardbases. I cut and scored cards in two different orientations. I need to make more today. I like to have them ready to go.

Below you can see the results of last weeks’ zoom session. I diecut the origami images I colored the week prior and die cut some more sentiments in gold paper. They are ready for assembly. I like having components ready to go so I can squeeze in some cardmaking in between other projects.

Another garden picture. Who did not prune her fruit trees? Yup.. me. They are the wild children in the background. They look like my hair in this humidity!!! I need a cool day and I will grab my husband and ladder and give them a trim. At the bottom of photo you can see some transplanted hydrangeas that are not blooming!! I am not sure if the transplant damaged them.

Last photo, from last night. It was wild winds yesterday and we opened all of the windows to let the cool air circulate. After dinner I had the urge to fill the house with heavenly scents so I made a Jamaican Toetoe Bread. It’s so simple and hit the spot!! I will eat a slice today with some tea for sure!

I hope you all are well. I will make my rounds tomorrow since I will be crafting with my friends later today.

Keep crafting!!

What’s on Your Workdesk Wednesday #580

I am sorry I am so late. I had trouble sleeping last night. I was up until 2am reading trying to fall asleep. So I will be walking zombie for a day!

I have completed my first page in my new color by number coloring book. It was really fun and relaxing since I didn’t need to decide on colors.

There is something wonderful about using old tools that you have had for a long time for a new project. I am working on some bookmarks and I found some old dies that I haven’t used in a very long time. The only complaint was that I had to vacuum up all the little circles that I poked out of the frame!

Above is a picture of some cards I made last Saturday during our weekly Zoom craft session. I used distress oxide on watercolor paper and Copics to color the beauty in the water.

This pandemic has not been good to my waistline so I have started a new weight training program. So hopefully I will be recognizable when we finally get a handle on this pandemic and get back out there.

Sunday I set my stuff up on my deck to paint the background on a new coloring page.

Now that it’s dry I will have to come up with color combos for the dragon.

That’s all for this past week. I can’t wait to see what you all have been up to.

Stay well.

I have been really pleased with my motivation to create cards again over the last two weeks. Today I woke up early anxious to play with a new stamp that recently arrived. So I popped around the web for inspiration and I saw people using there Distess oxide inks. I bought a few last year and used them then put them away. So I grabbed some Tim Holtz watercolor paper, water and some acetate (actually I couldn’t find my stash so I cut and used one of my gosseline bags I used for my cards and cut it in half for this smoosh technigue. Lately I have been drawn to water colors and this was really fun. After I did a few I decided to use my new tool to draw bubbles for a card I am working on. Can’t show you until it’s finished. I will probably work on it at my craft session this weekend. You can see the image below.

I made a mask of the new stamp I just got in the mail in preparation for a masked card. That’s as far as I got but I will share finished pieces next week.

What you might not know about me, that in addition to my love of crafting, I am an avid book reader. I wish I had a room (a very large room) I could dedicate to all of my books. I have outgrown my bookshelves so I need to do some Marie Condo action to make room!

Above is a picture of a book I had been patiently waiting to be published in paperback. I finally found it and ordered it, only to find the most irritating branding smack dab at the center of the book. It says Reading with Jenna (Jenna Bush, a former president’s daughter). Well, the big thing is celebrities endorsing books by having “book clubs”. The other problem is that this is not a sticker it is built into the design of the cover. I had the book on my table or several days and really couldn’t keep it.

So I sent it back and ordered the hardcover. Would you believe it had the sticker on it too? This time it was an actual removable sticker so it was better. I took my time and removed it. I am too much of a book snob to keep a brand new book that had that kind of sticker on it. And why do they do that anyway? I mean, Jenna Bush did not spend the years it took the author to write this book. Why not put a sign next to the book in stores or just mention it on a list online but to put your sticker on it is ridiculous. See what’s happening here…a book tangent. 😊

Garden update: I use a square foot gardening technique for my raised beds and this is the first year, I didn’t properly layout my garden so the squash is getting a little squished. I am hopeful that I can at least get a few before a potential fungus sets in.

Yesterday, to my surprise, my first green pepper of the season was ready for he picking.

Lastly, I wanted to share a photo of the yummiest homemade Portuguese Sweet Bread. My husband made two loafs one for us and one for his mum. I pray my boys will do stuff like that for me in the future (ok, I am not holding my breath but a girl can dream!)

Ok, I am off to snoop for a little bit. Stay well friends.

on my desk…

Hello, my crafty friends! It’s Wednesday and I am am a bit late but you know what time it is. Time to snoop. For those of you that aren’t familiar with WOYWW (What’s On Your Workdesk Wednesday), head on over to Julia’s Stamping Ground and you will find desks from all around the world where we get to snoop on other crafter’s desks.

On my desk today is my lovely new laptop case on the left. You can’t see how beautiful the colors are but trust me, they are even prettier in person. It comes with a felt sleeve but why would I want to hide that gorgeous cover? In the middle is one of the new coloring books I showed you last week. On the right is a new adhesive purchase. It is called Sticky Specks and it is suppose to be fantastic and reusable. One of my clever crafty girlfriend recommended it to me. Next to it is the package for children’s masks. We have been using disposable masks so my husband picked up these for my boys to add to the rotation. I kept the package to add to my scrapbook.

I cracked open the new color-by-number coloring book I showed you last week. I swatched my Prismacolor pencils to use inside. I think I will swatch my polychromos so that I can have options and see which one lays down best. It is even more relaxing having someone else decide the color palette.

Can you guess what is happening in this garden photo? Let’s just say I have really annoying squirrels in my yard that love to dig in my pots. I came up with the idea to give my seeds a chance by cutting up screen fabric and using a bungee cord to cover them. Once the seeds peeked out and almost touched the screen I removed it as you can see on the right. I am still not fully in the clear because they love to rummage around flowers so I am keeping my fingers crossed they will leave them alone.

For my weekly zoom craft day with friends I began by swatching this amazing Kuretake paint set that I have owned for (shhh) amount of years. Then I set to work painting some card bases since I knew they would need time to dry before I stamped on them.

I even used my paint palette to mix my colors. It’s so easy to clean.

While they dried I heat embossed some cute images from my new stamp set on black cardstock. Above is all the cards I made during the session. I was quite pleased with them when finished.

This is a close up at the watercolor cards. I am totally going to make more of these. An added bonus is that I think this stamp set makes lovely masculine cards. It’s always hard for me to create masculine cards. Especially since I love floral stamps. The texture is so great on the paper. The one on the far left I colored with Copic markers. That was fun too. So many options with these stamps.

I went bling crazy on this design. But I couldn’t resist because they matched so perfectly. I did create a few without for those who don’t want all the shiny goodness! It was such a productive session filled with a lot of laughter. We will not meet for two weeks because we have July 4th holiday weekend so I will be going solo until then.

June 30, 2001

Yesterday was our 19th wedding anniversary. I took pictures from our album to share. It was a wonderful time. I can’t believe it was that long ago that I got to marry the love of my life. Unfortunately we have a pandemic this year but I hope to really celebrate on our 20th anniversary.

When people tell me I have long hair now I laugh because it’s short compared to those days. Well enough reminiscing, it’s time for snooping!

I hope you all are well.
