30-Day Coloring Challenge: Day 3 – What’s Up?

challenge_graphic-4-revised

Today, I am feeling a little yucky but I did push myself to fit some coloring in. This is where this challenge works wonders. Because I normally would have said, skip it, I’ll do it tomorrow.

day3a

I have some new stamps from PowerPoppy that I have been anxious to color. They are small so I thought today would be the perfect day for them. I love teacups, tea and all the fun rituals around tea so if I see something related in a stamp, I pretty much have to have it.

day3bThe first thing I did was look for color inspiration. I think this is one of the areas I struggle with when I work with my Copics. I don’t look at an image and instantly know what color combos I will use. So often I will leave it to the professionals and look at paper packs or magazines. Since I have a zillion paper packs I usually grab them.Today I grabbed, American Crafts ‘Everyday’ paper pack. I bought this a long time ago at Target. I just fell in love with the vibrant colors.

day3cThe next thing I did was look at a combo sheet I have to see if any of them were close to the colors I liked in the paper pack. Then I test them on scratch paper. I have scratch paper around when I color. One sheet to test color blends and the other goes under the image I am coloring to absorb the color as it bleeds.

I hope you all are enjoying your coloring. I am going to go have lunch and see if that makes me feel better. (Food often improves my mood!)

Have a blessed weekend!

30-Day Coloring Challenge: Day 2 – BEEn missing you!

challenge_graphic-4-revised

Hello and here we are at day two. Today I actually have a finished product. I used one of Mo’ Digital Pencil’s images. I think her images are so amazing and this little bee girl is so stinking cute.

day2aI used Stella clear for the wings and tapped the copic lightly to give a furry effect on her tummy.  Yes, that is my tea cup, way too close to my work. I have a standing policy in my craft room – no drinks on my craft table ever.  Obviously, I was feeling daring today.

day2bOk so I think I have officially made Leao think I’m nuts, because I keep saving all of the plastic like this above to use on cards when I make shaker cards or in this instance a window. See honey, I am using it!

day2cI got this cute cut file for my Silhouette from Birds Cards. As soon as I saw it, I knew I could make it with this digi. So today I tried it and really like how it came out.

day2dYou can’t see in the photo but I put the plastic behind the opening behind her head.  I am definitely going to make more of these.

Happy coloring!!

30-Day Coloring Challenge: Day 1 – Lilacs in bloom

challenge_graphic-4-revised

Recently I have been trying to schedule in time for coloring with my Copics to continue to improve my skills and also to get back to making more products.  I was in luck when I came across this challenge online that I think is just what I need to jump start my mojo.

The Challenge begins today and ends on April 2nd.  All I have to do is spend a minimum of 5 minutes and color each day then share what I am creating. They don’t have to be finished cards or projects, just coloring. I like this because for me it takes the pressure off and let’s me play. So on some days I might have something complete and on others you will just see what I’m playing with. I will mostly be using my Copics, but I will also use my watercolor paint, watercolor pencils and distress markers from time to time. I hope by blogging and putting my stuff on Instagram, I will stay honest to the task.

day1a

Since all this snow is driving me crazy, I decided coloring flowers would make me happy. So I used a digital stamp from this awesome company called PowerPoppy. I don’t know if you remember me talking about Flourishes which was an amazing stamp company that went out of business last year.  I really loved the detail in their stamps and truly miss them. Well this company is on point too. The details of each stamp is so intricate. So lovely you could even leave them uncolored (blasphemy!!).

I also played with different color combinations.  So now I will know what colors to use for variety.

day1b

I think I will add glossy accents to the lady bug so she will pop and  of course wink of stella clear all over the flowers! Might keep these for reference and color up some for cards.

Happy coloring!
