What’s on Your Workdesk Wednesday – #161

Setting up mask with some stickers.

Hello Everyone,  I am posting away from home this week. We are staying over my in-laws for the July 4th holiday.  Looking forward to some grilling. This year, we brought a lot of healthy alternatives to keep us feeling good throughtout the day. (More like, I need to feel less guilty for the overindulging I do) Lots of seafood and veggies. Yum!

I chose to try the bird sticker.

Well I have to confess I am sick. It started last week with a soar throat now I have a full blown cough and congestion to boot.  It’s very hot here and this isn’t making me the most pleasant at times (imagine that!)  So as for crafting and capturing stuff on film, well that simply didn’t happen.  Well I did find a couple of photos I took before I had to take a break and rest. In these photos I was playing around with the new Tim Holtz distress inks Summer collection. I have to admit, I normally by these one at a time (with coupons) but I loved the colors in the Spring Collection which was only sold in a set of three and bought those a few weeks back and now the Summer collection is out and I couldn’t resist. The colors are just gorgeous.  I started playing around with a tag, some stamps and the inks but then my cold got the best of me so I had to go lay down for a bit.

Starting to add some of that beautiful blue color.

For those of you who don’t follow my blog regularly, I decided to also include this cute photo of my youngest, Apollo who graduated from Preschool this week.  I was a big old puddle of tears when he came out in his cap and gown.

What’s On Your Workdesk Wednesday – #160

Hello Everyone,

It’s Wednesday again. How does that happen? I mean really, I feel like I was just rushing to post last week’s post and here we are again snooping around for more creative goodness.  Well speaking of creative goodness, I have been in a creative slump.  My mojo is on vacation and I haven’t been able to create like I want to.   So I remember reading something about doing something different creatively and it will help jump start the magic.  So I bought this origami suncatcher kit on the bargain table at Barnes and Noble and I have to say, it was a lot of fun.

Two sheer sheets of paper

I started with the basic shape to see if I could do it.

Cut the two papers into eight pieces.

Cutting should have been easier than it was. I manage to screw up a few but it worked out fine.

Let the folding begin.

It’s getting really fun.

More folding

I have to say the directions were very straight forward because I am not one for accurately following directions.

They are so cute in the window!!

They look so cute in the window I have to make more.  If you have never tried it before, this was a very basic kit and such fun. Just what I needed to get my mojo on.  So I hope to have more fun stuff to share with you next week.

What’s on Your Workdesk Wednesday – #159

Hello Everyone!  I am feeling pretty good today.  Despite the fact that yesterday I received the dreaded news I need to add reading glasses to my vision aides.    I switch back and forth wearing glasses and contacts but over the last few months I have noticed the sudden difficulties with reading on my phone and e-reader.  I have also had more headaches than usual. So now I am bypassing the traditional bifocals to transition lenses. They say it takes time to adjust but won’t have to pull glasses off. I also have to pick up some reading glasses for the days I wear contacts and want to read my book. Which is often.  So I must wait a week for their arrival.

My monthly scrapbooking kit

I have received monthly scrapbooking kits for years. And being the paper hoarder I am, I take a long time to use them (if ever). So my new plan is that when a new kit arrives, to spread it on my desk to force me to use it. So here it is and I plan on making some cards and layouts with it. This kit is really great. It has Lily Bee Design, Jillbean and a lot of other really pretty papers and embellies.  I also have a few straggling Copic markers on my desk and some images I am practicing coloring.  You can see some of my Spellbinders that are out because I am making a case to store them.  The photo is of my mum, sister and none other than the amazing classical/opera singer, actress, Audra McDonald. The photo was taken after her performance.

What’s on Your Workdesk Wednesday – #158

Some of the fun things I received at my training

Hello! I’m back from my two-days of Copic training and certification. Oh it was great. I met so many amazing women. Some owned craft shops and others were artists looking to improve their techniques.  The first day started at 9am and ended at 4:00 and this class focused more on the basics and techniques. The second day started at 9am and ended at 7:30pm and this second class was really more focused on art principles covering such topics as highlights, midtones, shadows, cast shadows, skin and hair. It was a lot to take in but I am hoping to digest it over time. I believe they were both well worth the money.

We received really cool stuff at the classes too. One surprise was a Copic carrying case for 72 markers. I was so happy when I received mine, I think I might have drooled on myself!!

BLT: My oh so delicious dinner on the second night.

Speaking of drool, when the ladies from my table and I went out to eat, we all decided not to eat anything too heavy for dinner since we still had an hour and a half left of class to return to and a drive home. So many of us ordered BLT (A Bacon Lettuce and Tomatoe Sandwich for those who have not been blessed with the experience).  Well we were all floored when we saw this monstrosity placed before each of us. I must say,  I was doing more chewing than complaining about how big it was. Yum.

Marianne and I

Marianne Walker and I after she signed my Copics Intermediate Certificate

Where to begin. Marianne Walker if you don’t know her, you should check out her website Ilikemarkers. She is beyond amazing. Not only is her coloring the top of the line, she draws the most amazing illustrations. We got to look at one of her portfolios and my jaw dropped.  She had a really fun teaching style that kept you engaged even when the material was rather complex.  She walked around a great deal and worked one-on-one with each person to help us correct our mistakes and answer questions. It was great.

Stuff on my desk

Ok so most of the Copic stuff is still occupying my desk but on this corner I have some of my latest bargains from Joann Fabrics store. They sell goodies too. You can see some liquid adhesive, a super cool punch I was inspired to buy after out ATC swap. It punches out really small shapes. Perfert for ATC designs. I also snagged some cute stamps, fabric butterflies and a new Memento ink. Oh and some cute post it’s flags for my new Smash albums.
