Silhouette Sunday #16: Apollo’s Silhouette Journey

apollosilhouette1Apollo has always taken a strong interest in my crafts and Belinda’s Crafts for a very long time now. When I am in my craft room, he always finds an excuse to come in and check on what I am doing. I bought my Silhouette Portrait about two years ago and he took to it immediately. Before it even arrived in the mail, he downloaded the software and started poking around.  When it finally arrived, he was thrilled. He loved seeing all the cool cutfiles. He liked that it was on the computer since that is one of his favorite activities.

apollosilhouette2jpgSo when he found out I was receiving the new Silhouette Cameo for Christmas, he began his pitch for taking my Portrait.  I told him he could have it, if he promised to take special care of it.  Well we finally set it up on his computer in early January and he has been loving it. I have been teaching him how to locate free files online and to always download the weekly freebie at the Silhouette’s store.

apollosilhouette3In the beginning of February, he downloaded a free heart valentine card from Silhouette and he set to making me a Valentine. I love that he has no fear of jumping right in there.

I often think of my friend Cathy, who got me to take the leap into the world of Silhouette,  when I watch him working on his Silhouette and how she would be so thrilled to see another generation having fun with it. So I hope she will get to see these photos.

Recently, he celebrated his 100th day at school. They had to bring in 100 of an item for some activities. So I sent him with dried beans.  But the day before he found online a website that a person made a ‘100’ card and he immediately thought he wanted to make one to take to school.  By the time I came to provide some help he had followed the persons instructions and selected the same font and size. So I took the opportunity to teach him how to use the duplicate tool and weld to create the card base and he did all the cutting.

apollosilhouette4I can’t tell you how proud I am of him and the look on his face when he took it to school to show his teacher and friends was priceless. At this rate, I might have to hire him in a few months to create some cutfiles for Belinda’s Crafts.

As Cathy would say, “They’re never to young to learn a craft.”

Happy crafting my friends and thanks for reading about my pretty amazing boy.

Silhouette Sunday #15 – Making Valentines

feb15_2015b

I haven’t been posting much about my Silhouette on my blog because life seems to keep me busy but I grabbed the opportunity to play and bought some great files from SVGCuts. So I’m posting my Silhouette Sunday on Monday. Don’t hate.

I received the new Cameo for Christmas so I am anxious to cut large files. So I bought some great box cards I could use to make some Valentine’s.

feb15_2015cI think I could use this one for birthdays. My girlfriends would love this. It ‘s so cute in person. I cut out plastic to put inside the frames to make them really look like glasses.

feb15_2015dAfter I assembled all of the components then I glued it all together. A great tip I received from my friend Cathy is to turn off the cut for the dashed lines intended for folding and use the bone folder and hand-score them yourself. This way, you can insure it won’t rip from overuse.

feb15_2015eI just realized while typing this I forgot the black buckle that is suppose to go over the gray rectangle! Oops.

feb15_2015fThe back has a large place to leave a sentiment. I think I might even embellish it with some stamps.

ignite1This second card I made for Leao for Valentine’s day. It is so stinkin’ cute. I used a textured paper to make the matches and they are so cute.

ignite2It even cut out little tips for the matches to make them look real. I really like the cut files from SVGCuts.

ignite3Here is the fully assembled card. It’s so creative. I will definitely be making this one again.

ignite4On the back it had a nice size area for writing sweet sentiments. I didn’t fill it out before photographing because that is for my Valentine’s eyes only!!!

ignite5I added purls instead of the paper for the dots for more bling and used a sparkly yellow paper for the light parts of the flame for a cool affect.

He loved it and now has it on desk in his home office.

I hope you are having fun with your Silhouette. I will try to get back into posting more because my love for that machine is still strong.

Happy crafting!

Silhouette Sunday #14: Planner Stickers

plannerstickers1Sorry I am so late to post, I have been watching football and getting distracted.

For the last month I have been on a new fitness plan to get myself in better shape.  I usually write down in my planner when I exercise.  But recently, I decided to take it a step further to document my routine in a more inspirational way. So I thought if I made stickers with my Silhouette, I could use them to keep track of my fitness routine as well as my meditation practice.

So I looked on the Silhouette store for fitness or workout files. Once I found the ones that I wanted, I filled them with the color that coordinates with my planner and set up the page to Print and Cut. I re-sized them to fit in my planner and let the magic happen.

plannerstickers3I couldn’t find one for walking so I just made one with the word ‘walk’. The first sheet I let the Silhouette cut the images out. It did an amazing job and I quickly stuck them in my planner. But then I got to thinking and decided to fill the page with more and cut them out myself in order to maximize how many stickers I could fit on the page. (Always trying to save a dollar!) Even if I increased the margins I still wouldn’t be able to cut as many as I would like.  I am fine with cutting them out when I need them. I even found one to use for my meditation and yoga practice.

Let me know what you used your sticker paper to make and if you haven’t used it yet, take the leap. It’s worth it.

Happy Crafting!

Silhouette Sunday #13: bookmarks

bookmark1

Hello Everyone! I have been missing my Silhouette. This summer has pulled me in so many directions that I haven’t had much time to play like I like to with my Silhouette. But I did make a quick bookmark with it.

I was inspired by the store bought bookmark that I recently bought Apollo at the bookstore.  So I used this great calligraphy phrase by Tanya Batrak on the Silhouette store ( Design ID: #61896 ).

bookmark3

I created two with ribbons on the top.

bookmark2

The other two I used twine, beads from my old jewelry making days and metal charms.

Apollo has already asked to have one so move over store bought bookmarks.

Well I am off to go put one of these to use in my recent book.

Have a blessed day!

Belinda
