30 Day Coloring Challenge #4 – Day 3 – ‘Simply Amazing’ card

logoHello Everyone! It’s day 3 of the coloring challenge. Today it is pretty gray outside with rain fast approaching. Pretty much arriving in time for pick up, I’m sure. So it’s perfect for tea, music and coloring.

day3a I used another Saturated Canary digi for today’s card. As I mentioned in reply to a comment yesterday, some days I struggle with sentiments. I thought I wanted to use the ‘Fight Like a Girl’ sentiment commonly used on Breast Cancer cards and could not locate my stamp. So instead of eating up time in the search, I decided to color then worry about that.

day3b

When I saw this image I thought of warrior, strength and then I remembered I have this great embossing folder of gears that made me think of steampunk and thought it might compliment this image quite nice. I also used paper from Basic Grey’s Highline line. I am sad to say this company has gone out of business recently and they are one of my favorites. I liked the paper that looked like fire in this line so that is the one I chose for this card.

day3dI colored her up with my Copics with muted colors to practice creating the metallic look. But in the future I would like to try something vibrant and funky. This is the year of experimenting and getting out of my comfort zone so I will share when I give it a try.

day3cI love this sentiments stamp set from My Favorite Things and decided I could use this on my card.day3eI used my MISTI tool to align the words where I wanted them. I ended up deciding to overlap some of the words across the image so I inked it and stamped a few times for a dark impression. Normally I wouldn’t do this but I wanted to see how it would look. I like the overlap on the ‘Amazing’ but not as much on the ‘are’.

day3fI cut down the image and matted it on the Basic Grey paper and attached it the embossed cardstock. I love how I can’t help touch the gears when I hold this card.

day3gThis angle you can see the gears better. One thing I will do next time is wait longer after I color the light blue on the bottom of the card because it caused the ‘z’ to blur a little. (yup, self-critic can’t help herself!).

Happy coloring and I will see you tomorrow!

30 Day Coloring Challenge #4 – Day 2 – A card

logoHello Everyone! It’s Tuesday and day 2 of the coloring challenge. After yesterday’s craziness, I decided the first thing I would do this morning was to get my color on!! Yesterday my tools of choice were color pencils and today, I have gone back to my love – Copics!

day2aI had printed up this Saturated Canary digi a long time ago and only colored one so this one was begging my attention.

day2bI usually color skin and hair but first but for some reason I jumped from skin to clothes before coloring in her hair. I have been playing around with colors lately for my brown skinned beauties and decided not to go with the black or dark brown that is predominantly used and went straight to a camel color brown for fun. Since we all know I love books, I thought I would find a book sentiment to create a card with this image. I found the one I used on Pinterest.

day2cI used my Silhouette to design a fun sentiment to add to the card once I finished coloring. I matched the color of the font to her dress and because the sentiment used the word ‘dream’ I decided a cloud shape would be the perfect shape for a print and cut on the Silhouette. I also wanted to shake it up a bit and oriented the cloud 90 degrees counter clockwise.

day2dI couldn’t find my matching distress ink pad to edge the clouds so I used my Copics to create the effect.

day2fI used this lovely paper from Crate paper and enamel dots from My Mind’s Eye to create the dream bubbles.

day2eI’m pleased with the final card but I need your help. What color should I make her earrings? Gold or Silver and in the little box on the cover I want to right the word ‘Read’. What do you think?

With Lin’s encouragement I would like to enter this card for the Simon Says Stamp Anything Goes challenge

Happy coloring and I will see you tomorrow!

On my nightstand: three books and an audiobook

feb2-2016

Hello my bookworm friends! This year has started off with a bang. I read some great books in January and will be posting some reviews soon. In the meantime, I thought I would share with you what I am currently reading:

The bottom book I have had for some time now and been wanting to read it and now is the time. It is titled, “Sugar Changed the World: A Story of Magic, Spice, Slavery, Freedom and Science by Marc Aronson and Marina Budhos. The photography is amazing in this book. I will definitely post a review when I complete it.

The second book is my book club selection for February, and it is titled, “An Ember in The Ashes” by Sabaa Tahir. This book came out last year with a lot of fanfare at the bookstores. I have already started it and it is really good so far.

The top book is my Kindle which has the book titled, “Number the Starsby Lois Lowry and I have chosen to read along with Nicholas since this is an assigned book from school.

Some people ask me how I read more than one book. My answer is simple, “The same way I watch more than one television show.”  I typically read one book and listen to audiobooks at work. But last month I read multiple books and had no problem. I guess it depends on my mood and the type of reads. Reference, self-help, non-fiction mix better with fiction books. They are easily not confused. I don’t typically read the same genres at the same time because it might lead to confusions early on in the reading process. I hope that helps answer the question.

I hope you have something good to read on your nightstand. If not, what are you waiting for?

Happy reading!

30 Day Coloring Challenge #4 – Day 1

challenge_graphic-June-650Do you remember the coloring challenge I participated in last year?  Well if you do, it’s back!! Kathy at The Daily Marker is at it again. She hosted it three times last year and each time, I try to complete it.

The Challenge begins today, February 1st and ends on March 1st.  All I have to do is spend a minimum of 5 minutes and color each day then share what I am creating. They don’t have to be finished cards or projects, just coloring. I like this because for me it takes the pressure off and let’s me play. So on some days I might have something complete and on others you will just see what I’m playing with. I will mostly be using my Copics, but I will also use my watercolor paint, watercolor pencils and distress markers from time to time. I hope by blogging and putting my stuff on Instagram, I will stay honest to the task.

To find out more if you would like to participate you should click here.

I do notice a lot of people completing projects already on day one but I am not going to let that discourage me from joining in.  Today I had every intention of spending a fair amount of time coloring however, some work and an extremely long phone call robbed me of the opportunity to stay with it long.

day1a

Today, in honor of Black History Month, I chose to use a coloring book that my friend, Kathryn gave me for the boys.  She thought it would be both fun and educational. I love it because rarely do you see a coloring book about slavery. It seems now it is all the craze to have “adult” coloring books. I have had this for years now and many others. So perhaps I can use this challenge to actually color up the pages in the many in my possession!

I recently bought some more Prismacolor pencils that were on sale. They are the scholar version which is probably a bit lower grade quality but it had so many more colors, I thought I would give them a go. I am noticing that the colors are not very vibrant but I will keep playing around with them a bit to see what I can do. Perhaps the muted colors match the solemn topic.

day1b

I selected the page with Harriet Tubman and started coloring her up. I often find myself taking so much time to pick which color combinations to use but I am trying not to let that hold me up so today I picked more plain colors to fit the setting. I was not able to complete it and I must go make some dinner but maybe before bed I squeeze in a little more time to complete this page.  It’s quite relaxing because you focus on what you are doing rather than letting your brain run wild. I hope you will join in the fun. Let me know what your coloring?

day1c

Happy coloring and I will see you tomorrow!
