It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Fall

Hello friends! I hope you had a lovely weekend. Somehow it managed to fly right by just like this month. I can’t believe it will be October very soon. That said, I always like to make sure I know the official day fall begins. Fall is one of my favorite times of the year and my mind starts to make those adjustments pretty fast. That said, I took the time over the weekend to head over to one of my favorite garden centers to purchase some chrysanthemums to plant in my garden. I laid down my tarp and filled my trunk with some beauties.

In late August, I tend to start to get bored with my veggie garden and start thinking about mums, pumpkins, and red leaves with the foliage change. This year we had such an awful drought that I didn’t have to feel guilty about my change of allegiance to the fall offerings. My veggies are nearing an end and many plants didn’t survive the drought.

So I start walking around my yard and look for wholes to fill with mums. I always fill the spaces next to my blanket flowers with mums for a big splash of color in my front yard.

The plants I had near my front fence didn’t make it leaving a nice place to put a pop of color too.

I still have more decorating to do on my front entrance but at least all of my plants are in!

Have a lovely day!

Happy Monday – Some weekend art!

Museum of Fine Arts visit.

As soon as I heard that The Obama Portraits would be making a stop near me on their tour, I went online to reserve tickets for, my son, husband, and me. The weather could not have been more beautiful. We arrived about 15 minutes before our allotted time and parked in the parking garage.

I knew I wanted to see these portraits in person since I knew I wasn’t heading to DC anytime soon. They immortalize the historical moment in our history when a black man, was elected to serve as the President of the United States. It’s so amazing since growing up I never thought that it was possible and seeing images of black people holding high office and positions of importance, is not as common as I would like.

Another amazing fact, was that they commissioned two black artists to create these beautiful portraits. The exhibit also included information about these artists.

First of all, I could not believe how large these portraits are and I could not believe we were able to get so close to them while experiencing the exhibit.

I brought my youngest son because I wanted to provide him with the experience.

We walked around a little bit to see a few of the other exhibits but unfortunately, the timing was after lunchtime and we were starved so we headed out to a cool local sushi place for lunch.

This archway was so ornate, I had to make my husband take a picture of me under it. Luckily no one was entering that space yet so we quickly snapped a few photos so I didn’t have to have strangers in my picture!! You know what I am talking about. When you go on vacation and you pose for what you think is going to be a lovely photo and later you look at your photos and see a stranger in the background either looking at the camera or in the most unflattering state!! ha ha.

On our way to the garage, we saw these giant baby head sculptures and I was drawn to them to take a few pictures.

We had a lovely day and the exhibit was well worth the price of admissions. I hope you had a lovely weekend friends.

Back-to-School Sale!

checking inventory

Hello lovely people. I’m back! I took the summer off and slowly getting my creative juices flowing for a new selling season. I decided last spring that I would take the summer off to spend time with my family, stress-free. Past summers, I would start out ok and then fall off work and stress the remainder of the summer about all the products I didn’t make. My oldest son also headed off to college last weekend and I wanted to make sure I was available to be with him during his last summer before leaving home.

scheduling

Yesterday, I went back into my craft room to begin planning for re-opening my shop. I had to check my inventory and see how many WIPs (Works in Progess) I had put aside last spring. I tried to identify which projects I still wanted to complete and plan production and release dates. I decided to work one month at a time because my life has changed drastically since I last posted.

quality check

We brought a new puppy, Ella into our family in April. So naturally, our lives had to adjust but I have to say, I have no regrets. We all fell in love quite quickly. As I mentioned earlier, my oldest son is now in college. So we are making adjustments with Ella to compensate for the loss of additional help. It also feels strange having only 3 people in our home instead of 4. We are a team so I am definitely happy and heartbroken at the same time.

Ella

Now for the exciting news. I am re-opening Belinda’s Crafts (Etsy shop) today and I am running a back-to-school sale with 15% off my entire inventory. So snag a few cards if you are so inclined.

I will also be releasing some new products over the coming weeks so be sure to check often. I will announce new products here, on Instagram and if you made my shop a favorite, you will get new product releases in your feed.

Have a lovely day!
