Fun Photos Friday – #16

funphotofriday16

Apollo is always asking me about breakfast in bed. So on Tuesday, while he was eating his breakfast before heading out to school, he tells me he wishes he had B in B. I asked him what he was talking about and he said he wanted breakfast in bed. I told him if they declare a snow day tomorrow (Wednesday), I will make you B in B.  Well need I say more…he was so thrilled on Wednesday to have his wish come true.

funphotofriday17I even brought the portable DVD player so he could watch Despicable Me 2 in bed. Now that’s service!!

Have a blessed weekend!

Belinda’s Book Nook Review: Winter Sea by Susanna Kearsley

Winter Sea by Susanna Kearsley

Winter Sea by Susanna Kearsley

In the spring of 1708, an invading Jacobite fleet of French and Scottish soldiers nearly succeeded in landing the exiled James Stewart in Scotland to reclaim his crown.

Now, Carrie McClelland hopes to turn that story into her next bestselling novel. Settling herself in the shadow of Slains Castle, she creates a heroine named for one of her own ancestors and starts to write.

But when she discovers her novel is more fact than fiction, Carrie wonders if she might be dealing with ancestral memory, making her the only living person who knows the truth-the ultimate betrayal-that happened all those years ago, and that knowledge comes very close to destroying her…

This is my third book I have read by Susanna Kearsley and it did not disappoint. Like both Marianna and The Shadowy Horses, Ms. Kearsley conducted a lot of historical research to help create her stories.

This book slipped back and forth through time every chapter but again she has a great way of tying the times together even though they are at complete different times. She always has a very tasteful romantic aspect in her books surrounded by historical facts. She always piques my interest in aspects of history that I am clearly unaware.  Which is one of the reasons I gravitate to a lot of historical fictions.

The main character is a writer and the way this book is written gave me a chance to see the writing process from a writer’s perspective.  It explores the concept of ‘ancestral memory’,  the process in which a memory is passed down through the generations without the individual having any firsthand experience.  This,  I found fascinating and wonder if it is possible.  As usual, I did find myself swept up in the romance in the story and cheering for a certain outcome.  So if you are looking for a great read, I think this is one.

Happy Reading!

Silhouette Sunday #3 – Organizing your files

organization1

Welcome back to Silhouette Sunday. Today I want to talk about using your files. I confess, I am weak when it comes to buying files. I buy files from the Silhouette store and I also obtain a whole lot of free files on the web. I will share those sources with you in future posts.

But the problem is that it can add up fast and before you know it, you have hundreds of files you just don’t know what you have and it seems daunting to organize.  But once you do it, you will be able to quickly locate the files you need and stop buying things you already have.

The first thing you should do is look at the categories that Silhouette has created in their store. They have 13 main categories and subcategories under each. This gives you an idea for a basic filing system and then from there you can expand to meet your needs. When you create your organizational structure around the Silhouette system, it makes it easy to know where to file the files once you buy them and quicker to find them later.

I have  attached included a list (in PDF format) of all the categories and subcategories.  Print them out for reference and then open up your Silhouette software.

To Create a Folder:

organization3

  • Click on Show Library icon
  • Then click on the New Folder icon on the top task bar or Right click on the My Library icon to create a new folder.

organization4

  • Then type the name for the folder. Use the PDF print out to guide you. Continue creating the 13 main categories and then you can go back and create sub categories (folders).

To create subcategories:

  • Click on the folder you want to create a subcategory under and click on the New Folder icon or right click the folder you want to have sub folders under.
  • Then name the folders.
  • Continue until you have as many as you like. I used their 13 main categories and then I modified a few to meet my specific needs.

Overall, you will find it easier to build off of their list because you will be able to file them as soon as you download them.

I still find this machine incredibly fun to use and look forward to expanding my knowledge and sharing it with you. Thanks for joining me today.

Happy Crafting!!!
