What’s on Your Workdesk Wednesday – #454

Hello Everyone and Happy Valentines Day! I haven’t posted a WOYWW post in months. Funny how time blows by and you don’t realize how long it’s been until you really focus. My son actually asked me when was the last time I posted on WOYWW and I was so thrilled that he brought it up, that I told him not for a while but I will this week.  He seemed to be happy about it. I think he likes the idea of peeking on desks around the world. So here I am.

For those of you that aren’t familiar with WOYWW (What’s On Your Workdesk Wednesday),  head on over to Julia’s Stamping Ground and you will find desks from all around the world for What’s on Your Workdesk Wednesday.

On my desk is one of my new coloring books. You can also see my new Kum pencil sharpener in the blue bowl which is my new favorite sharpener. It makes beautiful sharp points. You can also see a return address stamp I made on my Silhouette before Christmas to use on my Christmas cards. I loved it so much I ordered more stamping supplies!! You can also see mini envelopes I made (some for Valentine’s Day) with my WeRMemory Keepers Tab Punch Board. If you want to see more you can look here.

Over the last few months, I have been immersing myself in the world of colored pencils and adult coloring books. As some of you may know, I am a Copics girl and really have enjoyed coloring with them for years. But the beauty of the craft world is that there are so many mediums to explore to keep oneself happy for a lifetime and I thought this would be a nice skill to add to develop alongside my Copic skills. I realized that just as with Copics, there are papers and other products that can help to enhance the colored pencil experience. So I consider myself a newbie and have been loving watching videos on YouTube of people coloring and teaching techniques.

I have been learning what tools can help and how to use the pencils to create different effects. Being a crafter, I know the learning will be slow and remain patient with the process. After all, it’s supposed to be relaxing. That said, If you look at the photo, I have one leaf left to color but for the life of me I am not sure what color to use. Any suggestions?

I will take some time today for the rest of this week peeking at desks. I can’t wait to see what you all are working on.

Sincerely,

Belinda

  1. Hi Belinda, I too have recently bought some Prisma pencils from Amazon. Colouring isn’t really my thing, I just need to practice more and then I’ll probably enjoy it more than I do now. I have many Promarkers but wanted to try pencils too. Have a lovely week, Hugs, Shaz #15 XxX

    • Hi Shaz! As you know I am a Copic girl and love my markers. I heard someone on Youtube explain coloring with pencils vs. markers this way. A page in a coloring book could be colored in an hour with markers but could take several hours to a day to color with pencils. So I thought it would be a hard transition for me but overall, I actually enjoy spending a little more time with pencils. I also am a strong believer that you have to have the coloring book with images that speak to you. When you do, you will want to color it. I am trying to catch myself from frustration of not completing an image when I finish a coloring session with the pencils. I am hopeful that I will learn how to combine the two.

  2. Oh Belinda, lovely to see you, for sure. Your colouring skills are sublime…I wouldn’t dream to help you with colour choices, it’s not in me!

    • Hey Lady! I see you have been doing a bit of traveling. I love the photos you posted. The architecture is so beautiful. No worries, I think I found a color combo. Fingers crossed!

  3. Hi Belinda, lovely to see you (and your son) back. Your colouring is amazing, I love the colour choices you have made already so I’m sure whatever you go with will be great! Have a good week. Sarah #14

    • Hello Sarah! Yes, my son is funny how out of the blue he asked me when was the last time I did a WOYWW. Love that he notices. Have a great day!

  4. Hey Belinda, good to see you back on the desks! I have pencils and Spectrum Noirs which I use pretty much the same amount. I do like the deeper colours of the pens though, they’re probably what I prefer. Your colouring is great 😀

    • I love my Copics but I really am enjoying learning colored pencil techniques. There is definitely a learning curve!

  5. welcome back! i will look out for that make of sharpener, it is so hard to find one that doesn’t just break the leads! Have a good week. helen #1

    • Hi Helen! It’s a Kum pencil sharpener. I bought it from Amazon for about $4.00. I got the two hole but only use and when the blade dulls I will move the blade over. I am still new to this but I really like this one. The last one I had was a Prismacolor sharpener and I just don’t like it as much.

  6. HI Belinda 🙂 Love how the page is coming along. my favorite thing to do with copic’s is use them as a base for pencils. the pencils give them such texture and depth ( to me) but, really cuts some time over building layers of color esp. on big spaces.
    ~Stacy #36

    • Hi Stacy! That’s something I want to learn to do is use them with my Copics. But I am first trying to learn to color with them alone.

  7. Heather Marshall says

Hi Belinda. Welcome back. Your colouring looks wonderful… I have plenty of watercolour pencils, but no colouring pencils. If I coloured as lovely as you I think that would be preferred medium! I also have spectrum noir aqua markers which I now wish I hadn’t bought … but I had only just started crafting then. Have a lovely week Heather #13

    • Hello Heather! Thank you. I have a small set of watercolor pencils too but haven’t learned how to use them yet. Years back I started with Copics so I never bought the Spectrum Noir but I hear they are lovely.

  8. Cindy Ashplant says

Hi there, welcome back from a fellow MIA WOYWWer. Lovely colouring – would love to know exactly which sharpener you have, always on the lookout for a good sharpener! Happy Wednesday, Cindy #22

    • Hi Cindy, I was just telling Helen that the name of the sharpener is Kum. I bought it from Amazon for about $4.00. I got the two hole but only use and when the blade dulls I will move the blade over. I am still new to this but I really like this one. The last one I had was a Prismacolor sharpener and I just don’t like it as much. I liked that the Prismacolor sharpener caught the shavings but now I have a dedicated bowl so it’s all good.

  9. I couldn’t seem to find my mojo and felt a real loss of creativity and inner peace. A friend of mine told me about color books and I bought a few to color and managed a few pages but not many. I seem to have a brain issue that affect my attention span post operatively. Dr. Says it will come back…hope soon. Have a great week. Vickie #39

    • Hello Vickie! I am sorry to hear that your mojo is on vacation. I think that’s common among crafters. But as far as coloring books, I am finding I am drawn to some and not others so you might look around and see what speaks to you. I hope you feel better soon. Thanks for the visit!

  10. Love those hummingbirds. My mother-in-law loves coloring books – she says they relax her.
    April #23

    • Hey, April it’s been too long! You know I do think they help me relax. I usually listen to music while I color or an audiobook and find it great. I even used it during the football season when I tend to get all hyped up. I am glad to hear from you. Hope you are well.

  11. Great to see you Belinda, you’re right the time just goes so quickly. Loving your colouring. Good luck with your final choice of colours. Have a lovey belated WOYWW, Angela x20x

  12. Hi Belinda. I’m impressed! Your colouring is great – enjoy your new pencils and sharpener!!
    Take care. God bless.
