What’s on Your Workdesk Wednesday – #539

on my desk…

Hello friends! It’s that time again! For those of you that aren’t familiar with WOYWW (What’s On Your Workdesk Wednesday), head on over to Julia’s Stamping Ground and you will find desks from all around the world where we get to snoop on other crafter’s desks.

Tool time over here! I have kind of fallen behind on the craft tools out there and while shopping at Michael’s with my son looking for supplies for his science project for school, I happened across the papercrafting aisle (ok, I purposely took a walk there!) and saw this beauty. I have quite a collection of WRMemory Keepers tools. I am facinated in the genious it takes to create these affordable tools that really increase productivity and are a lot of fun once you learn their tricks. So when I saw this Pocket Punch Board, I knew I had to buy it. It has so many uses. It can be used in a card as an accent or gift card holder, it could be used on scrapbook pages to hold additional journaling and more. So I used my 40% off coupon and got if for cheap. So this morning is the first day I got to play around with it.

Some of the pockets I created today.

I have to admit, I am lousy with instructions so I found a quick tutorial on YouTube and then I was off and running. The tool comes with everything you need to create different size pockets. It has the cutting, scoring and embossing tool as well as a handy guide to tell you paper sizes to make different sized pockets.

I even made one that could hold my bookmarks I make. I like how the top peeks out so you can see the bookmark.

A cool pocket for the bookmark.

The funny thing was I spent more time picking different papers to test out this new tool on.

Had my son hold the camera for this shot.

I am going to definitely make more for the bookmarks. The cool thing is that you can embellish them or simply use patterned paper.

Look at this baby pocket. It’s so tiny.

I have to tell my friend Ashley if she doesn’t already own it because it would be great to make valentines for her daughter. My boys are past the age of valentines exchanges at school but they would be perfect for that.

This is a pocket with a flap.

It has the option to create a pocket with a flap or with a top notch. I loved both.

This is the reverse side of the pocket.

Other happening on my desk. I created a bunch of accents to use on cards with my Nuvo drops. I can just pull them off and adhere them to a card. I just love looking at them all like that. I ordered a pretty red for Christmas time that should arrive this week.

Nuvo drops ready to go.

They aren’t exactly the same as enamel dots but so close and I can make as much as I want. So I am really enjoying using them. It was so relaxing making this sheet of drops. Almost like the feeling I have when I color.

The handy chart that comes with the pocket punch.

One last thing, I thought I would share a great tip, if you do own or buy this fun tool. It’s quite easy to lose your place when you are using the guide so I came up with a great solution. I used a post-it. I place it on the line I want to focus on. The first set of numbers are the final size of the pocket, the second column has the letter and number to set the guides, the third column is the size if you want a flap and the final column is the size paper you need for a cut-out notch at the top. After I finished a pocket I would write down the info on the post-it and then stick it to the back of the pocket so I would know in case I wanted to reproduce it.

Scribble Showdown

I am so tired today. Last night we took my youngest to see an event called the Scribble Showdown where he got to see a group of his favorite graphic animators from YouTube participate in a friendly drawing competition. It was very interactive and he had a blast. My photo is rubbish but I did snap a few anyway. But we got home so late and this girl, need her beauty rest. Ha Ha. So I make no promises to visit all today but I will make visits over the course of the next few days.

Have a blessed day my friends!

What’s On Your Workdesk Wednesday – #538

on my desk

Hello friends! It’s that time again! For those of you that aren’t familiar with WOYWW (What’s On Your Workdesk Wednesday), head on over to Julia’s Stamping Ground and you will find desks from all around the world where we get to snoop on other crafter’s desks.

I am a little late to the party today but you will be pleased to see I am actually being rather productive this morning. I am calling today Silhouette designing day in my craft room because I am working in my Silhouette app today. I have some of my tools out for the first shot on my desk. Remember those coasters I showed you a few weeks ago? I wanted to customize them and make them into a housewarming gift for my sister-in-law. Well that’s them in the desk shot before I got to work. I also have sticker paper out, Silhouette tools, scissors, my laptop, etc.

Cutting vinyl for my home decor items.

I have all sorts of vinyl but this is my first time using the Oracal 651 brand by Silhouette. It claims to be perfect for indoor and outdoor projects and it has a perfect shine so I thought it would be perfect for these coasters.

Coasters
Laying out vinyl on coasters.

I created a mock version in paper for sizing and placement purposes. Then I used my weeding tool and carefully began laying down the vinyl.

Smoothing down the letters.

I began with the first letter and used the paper mock up to help align it. Then I layed down the remaining letters which are all attached for easier placement and then smoothed out air bubbles.

I liked the look of the initial straddling the marble and wood. So I usede my T-ruler to help with placement. I thought it would be fun to have her name on some and first initial on others. Underneath them you can see my second project all cut out on the Silhouette.

I think they came out great. I will be sending them with my husband this weekend. He and his brother’s are all going to fly in and spending the weekend with their sister as a housewarming guests!! It will be fun for them to have quality sibling time without spouses and kids. I am really happy for them because I think we lose sight of our siblings sometimes in the daily happenings of family life. So I am hoping this will be the beginning of an annual sibling trip.

fall boxes created on the Silhouette.
I assembled these fall beauties.

The paper you saw under the coasters, I cut out on my Silhouette and assembled these adorable fall themed boxes. I decided to shake it up and interchange the tops for a pretty contrast. I couldn’t find my red line tape which is really good so I used my ATG but will look around later and restick them once I find the red line tape.

My last project this morning was to convert digital files I bought online to stickers on my Silhouette so I can print and cut them on the machine to use in my planners.

New fall stickers for my planners.

Isn’t she cute? I love the fall colors and now I can just grab a few anytime I need one in my jounals.

A morning spent with my Silhouette makes for a productive morning today. I hope you all are having productive days. I’ll pop by later today and through the weekend.

Happy crafting!

Not much crafting today. I had an amazing day with my crafty girlfriends on Saturday so today I am playing catch up in my bullet journals. I have one for work and life and one as a book journal where I put all things related to the books I read. I am always trying to tweak the processes so that I don’t get behind but sometimes it’s just inevitable. Oh and I scored on those Faber Castell Gelatos from Michaels. They were on clearance for a fraction of the cost so since I have never used them it seemed like a good time to buy some.

Key for my bullet journal

I am trying out a new key or my bullet journal. I use many but there are a few more that I would like to use. Time will tell if it’s the right fit for me. I try to keep things loose and don’t get to caught up because then I won’t want to use it.

Book I plan on reading.

I am going to see this author next month so I thought I better read her book before I ask her to sign it. It’s the first book in an older cozy mystery. As the weather is getting cooler and the daylight shorter, I love sinking into a cozy mystery. So I’m all in for this one!

I absolutely love my book journal. It has book reviews of books that I’ve read, lists of books I would like to read and things I learn along the way. I feel this is equally important. My kids will be able to look back and see what I read and how I felt about them.

Pages in book bullet journal.

I have a section where I keep track of new releases that I am excited to get my hands on.

I use old letter stickers, washi tape and old ephemera from my scrapbooking days. I am grateful to use up old supplies.

Well that’s all for me. My sister is coming to visit tomorrow so I also need to tidy up our guest room that somehow is a magnet for miscellaneous clutter! My boys also have a half day of school so I will be running out in about an hour and a half to pick them up. Not super exciting stuff to show you but it’s what’s happening here today.

Well I know I say this every week but wow does time fly. On my desk is my current stamping supplies. On the left, in the bag are seeds I collected for my gardening twin. Below is a picture of the flowers at my father-in-laws. They are the flowers closest to me in the picture. So I collected seeds some for me and some for her.

On my desk you can also see some new costers I bought at Target. I’m plan to personalize them for my sister-in-law who just moved into a new home. I grabbed an extra set for me too because they are so pretty. I will customize mine too. The strips of scrap paper above my stamping, are from when I cut down the watercolor paper for the stamping. I keep them to test out colors before I commit them to my projects then I toss them.

Today I am working on a couple of things. One is I am stamping up some flowers onto some watercolor paper in preparation for some cardmaking.

Mass producing the images for some cardmaking.

I have the matching dies so I don’t have to fussy cut. I used to like it but now I realize I am not that good and it takes too long. So I truly value the coordinating dies.

Matching dies makes life easier.

I am also gathering supplies to make some mini notebooks with the notepads you see in the picture. I also stamped up some card fronts to use with these envelopes I have had for way too long.

current DIY project

The weather is acting wonky again. It’s going to be in the mid 80s and humid. What??? I was ready for fall weather and now I am sweating again. Not cool.

Ok I am off. I will make my rounds later today and tomorrow. Have a crafty day my friends!
