Write On Update

writeon1At first I thought of making all of my cards for this WriteOn challenge and then I realized it would be cutting too far into my work schedule so I ran out to find some cute cards to use to write my 30 letters. I found all these beauties at TJ Maxx. I have always looked at the card selections there because they get really great brands and sell them at a really good price.

writeon5I even think I will use the clever box designs and try to recreate them with my Silhouette. I am always looking for the challenge. The butterfly one on the left even has a magnetic closure which I will definitely be incorporating into a future project.

writeon4I began writing a list of potential recipients and will check them off as I mail them a letter. I am sad to say that I don’t buy books of stamps as often as I would like. Despite my complaints that I don’t want Post Offices closing, while preparing for this challenge I realize that I don’t do enough to ensure that doesn’t happen. And that means using their services more regularly and buying more stamps. I can’t imagine not having post offices anymore than I can seeing our libraries disappear.  So this challenge will help me put action to my beliefs.

I found these lovely floral stamps and they are almost too pretty to mail (there goes that hoarder talking)!

writeon2I love this card because the flowers are dimensional and the envelope is in pretty colors too.

I sat and began writing and let me tell you, I don’t write as much and for very long when I do so I am embarrassed to say, that my hand actually began aching. However, I pushed on and wrote two letters.

writeon3Apollo even joined in and mailed his first letter for the month. Today I will write another. I am liking that the recipients won’t be expecting anything from me so that makes it more special.

I hope you find a time to send a letter to someone this month. Think how happy they will be to receive it and it only costs you the price of a postage stamp.

Treat Yourself Tuesday (TYT) – Breakfast with my girlfriends!

TYT041415

Hello and Happy TYT!! I am just back from a lovely breakfast with two of my amazing girlfriends. I know, you want to know if I put all that down right? Well I did eat the entire (yes entire) vegetable omelet, two pieces of bacon and one of the toast and I left the sweet potato since I don’t like sugar on my sweet potatoes.  Not to mention that if I did eat it, I would need to unbutton my top button and I think that wouldn’t go over to well in a public place!!

It was nice to catch up over a yummy meal. We used to go out for girl’s night out but scheduling conflicts made that a challenge so a few months ago, we started meeting for breakfast and although it isn’t as glamorous as our nights out, we still feel good when we return to our busy schedules.

It’s important to make a little time for friends. It’s good for the soul!

I hope you find make time today for a great TYT!

Circuits and Watercolor

circuitsandwatercolors1Apollo has a natural interest for building and creating. This past year, he has picked up a bit on the Legos building. But I noticed that Apollo wants to create something. He always talks about what if I created something that could do this or that. Then he started taking different things like springs and removing bulbs from christmas ornaments and trying to make something. So Leao pulled out a beginners’ circuits kit and this boy is so happy. He just keeps going. He loves seeing what function each creation has. Leao told him when he finishes these he will buy him the next level up. It’s like magic watching him.

circuitsandwatercolors2Then he comes and explains to me what he did and shows me what it does. I love it.

Recently while in Target I found a great watercolor pad and brush set on clearance. Since I am now exploring that medium, he has been watching and so I thought we could ride this journey together.

circuitsandwatercolors3The paper is okay quality but good for the beginner. The brush set is pretty cool. I don’t even think I own all these brush styles.

What makes me happy is that I can see what Leao is able to instill in Apollo with the circuits and I with the watercolor and crafts. I hope he keeps both interests and finds joy with them for years to come.

Have a blessed day friends!

Treat Yourself Tuesday!

TYT040715

Good morning Everyone! It’s Tuesday and this morning I skipped my usual green tea with lemon with my breakfast so that after I dropped off the boys I could head on over to Starbucks.

I decided today is going to be a Treat Yourself Tuesday (TYT)!  So I ordered a yummy 2 pump soy Chai tea and The New York Times. It might not seem like much to some of you but because I have small children in the home, I do not watch the news and I’m sleeping before the late news broadcast, so I miss a lot of the daily happenings as well as world events. So this 20 minutes with the The New York Times was fantastic.

As for my chai tea, anyone that has had one, will know it is always a treat to drink one. I have tried to cut back on them since the calories are not in my favor which makes today a real treat when I do indulge.

I came home and treated myself to 20 minutes of tea and news catch up before work. I think I am going to have to make TYT a regular habit. We all need to find even 10 minutes to treat ourselves to something nice. So I challenge you to find 10-20 minutes today and do just that. Come on, I know you can do it.

Have a blessed day friends.
