What’s on Your Workdesk Wednesday – #534

on my desk…

Hello my friends! First off, I want to apologize for not making it around to everyone last week. I was preparing my final project for a genealogy class I was taking and never made it around. Thank you all for stopping by and leaving a comment. But I will correct that naughty behavior today! I am off to my annual boob squeeze oops I meant to say mammogram so I will visit you all after my appointment.

On the brighter side, today is my youngest’s 12th birthday. Do I see chocolate birthday cake in my future? Yup! Can’t wait for him to come home from school so we can celebrate.

For those of you that aren’t familiar with WOYWW (What’s On Your Workdesk Wednesday), head on over to Julia’s Stamping Ground and you will find desks from all around the world where we get to snoop on other crafter’s desks.

Moroccan Mosaic

Today I don’t have much to share. I am just cracking the seal on a few of the new products I shamelessly received over a month ago and haven’t had a proper play session. These are two new dies from the company Altenew.

This first one is called Moroccan Mosaic Cover Die and boy does it live up to my expectations. I used inexpensive cardstock to test it out and it is surprisingly very sturdy.

I played around with leaving some of the segments in for a different look.

I also think I can use some of the cut pieces the die left behind!

extra pieces

The second die is called Cross Stitch Canvas Die. I should have cut it out in off white bu I thought the brown would show up better on camera. I think fall when I look at this one and want to try to create something warm and fuzzy with it. Still flushing out some ideas.

Cross Stitch Canvas

On my desk you see two new adhesives I purchased. One is Pixie Spray so that I can use it with my delicate stencils to hold them in place when I ink or paint them.

The other adhesive is spray adhesive. Why spray adhesive you ask? Because that is the only way I will get something like the Moroccan Mosaic Cover to stick to a card front. I can’t wait to try it.

Well I am off. You know I am convinced a man designed the damn squeeze machine for mammograms and if that doesn’t give it away, what about the no deodorant or perfume the day of the test? I’m just sayin’… 🙂

Happy crafting my friends, I will pop by later this afternoon.

What’s on Your Workdesk Wednesday – #533

on my desk…

Hey friends!! For those of you that aren’t familiar with WOYWW (What’s On Your Workdesk Wednesday), head on over to Julia’s Stamping Ground and you will find desks from all around the world where we get to snoop on other crafter’s desks.

Today I am just playing a little on my desk with something new. Come check it out! I took my son to Staples last night for some last minute school supplies and thought I would treat myself to some school supplies too! Ok, so it isn’t exactly for school (since I am not going to school) but I will learn something about using them so maybe it’s alright.

Inside the beautiful tin.

Crayola has a new Signature series of products that might be targeted more for the colorist or bullet journaler. So I got sucked in and bought these Pearlescent Cream Sticks. So I thought I would share my initial thoughts since I literally opened the tin and began using them a half an hour ago.

Let me first comment on the packaging. Oo la la, I mean if this pretty tin didn’t catch my eyes, I think I would need to see an eye doctor. The tin is so pretty that I am going to keep them stored inside instead of saving space and putting them inside a zipper pouch.

Pulled out a new coloring book for testing.

I decided to pull out one of my newer coloring books that I haven’t colored in to test these babies out. So I picked up Creative Haven’s In Full Bloom coloring book. I love the pictures in this book. I selected a page with a sunflower to test out creating the background. Because when I saw these in the store the first thing I thought is I would use these for coloring in backgrounds on my pages.

Perfect page to test out using them for backgrounds.

The cream sticks come in 10 lovely colors and they have a pretty sheen to them that is hard to capture on camera. I have to try using the white on dark paper because they don’t show up well on white coloring pages. The packaging says bleandable dry or wet.

Final product.

I quickly laid down a darker color on the edge and a litter blue inside. Then I first tried blending them with the makeup pad. Not so good. So I grabbed my waterbrush and was too lazy to fill my water cup so I just went for it with the waterbrush. I didn’t saturated it much because this coloring book has thin pages and I didn’t want any pilling. As soon as the water hit the color it sparkled and glided nicely around the page. I love the watercolor effect with a pretty sheen when you look at it in different angles. It took me about 15 minutes to complete this background. Which I think is fast and will definitely try using them again on future pages. I also noticed no pilling and minor warping of this paper so I can only imagine how well they will work on watercolor paper. I will use my Prismacolor pencils to color the flowers to complete the page.

Before I go I thought I would leave you with sights from the Boston Comic Con. It was so much fun seeing all the costumes and I even got a chance to meet a Marvel crush from the TV series Luke Cage!

Have a crafty week and I will drop by later today.

What’s on Your Workdesk Wednesday – #532

On my desk…

I finished this page! I procrastinated for a few days and then I decided I better get it done since I told you last week that I would share when I finish.

For those of you that aren’t familiar with WOYWW (What’s On Your Workdesk Wednesday), head on over to Julia’s Stamping Ground and you will find desks from all around the world where we get to snoop on other crafter’s desks.

I used a white jelly roll pen for highlights. I always wanted to use my white gel pen on my coloring pages and haven’t really found the right one to do so. On this page, I used it on some of the bubbles, on the coral and some of the other creatures.

The completed page.

I am so impressed with the paper. There is a little warping but I kind of like the look. It lends itself nicely to the aquatic theme. The reverse page has a large jellyfish so I think it will look really cool.

Happy mail arrived yesterday!

I forgot that I had pre-ordered these books it was so long ago. So it was a pleasant surprise to open the box and see these beauties. They are both high quality hard covered books. Spirit Animals is by the same illustrator as the book, Daydreams that I colored above. So now I have two of her books.

A peek inside Flora.

What perfect time for Flora to arrive. This book makes me think of both fall and spring so I can see me having fun coloring this beauty this fall. I mean just look at it. How cute is that little tree house? Oh and look at the little hammock.

One more peek in Flora.

A teapot house must be colored by me. I absolutely love it. Look at all the flowers surrounding it. So many possibilities!

This one is so cool I like that they designed a tech theme to go with the spirit animal spider and lady.

You all know I like butterflies and this one does not disappoint. It’s beautiful.

Let’s see, maybe I should make a goal to color at least one page in each by the end of September. Let’s see if I can do it.

Today is my boys first day of school so I am a bit emotional. I always cry thinking about how fast they are growing. My youngest looked so small entering the big building. I will feel better after a few days but the transition is always hard for me too.

Well enough of that, I am off to go snooping!

Clean start

Inside my studio…

What’s the saying? “All good things must come to an end.” For summer ends in our home on Wednesday. Yes, I said Wednesday, August 14th! My boys head back to school on that day and I return to work. I suppose I could lead with that somewhat pessimistic quote or I could cast away the doom, gloom and modify it to: “All good things must come to end to make way for even greater things!”

visual cues

Now I feel a little better. But do you know what makes me really happy? A clean workspace. I cleaned my desk in preparation for my return to work. This little note card is placed right in front of my workspace as a visual cue to not let setbacks hold me back.

view from the side

The sunlight pouring in from the side adds a special glow to the room that makes me happy to be here. I will start actual work on Wednesday but I am finishing tidying up a few other items today and then I will pre-plan my schedule in my bullet journal. I am trying out some new systems with the goal of managing my time better this time around.

items that motivate

I want this space to motivate me because I have a busy fall schedule and it can quickly drag me down. So I like to have items I use often on my desk as well as items that motivate me. This note pad I bought a while back at TJ Maxx and it’s always encouraging when I write a preliminary list on it. The title helps push me to actually complete the items on my lists.

What’s with the rocks you ask? Well I have collected rocks and pretty shells on the beach since I was a little girl and these are two from this past summer vacation on the beach. So seeing them relaxes me and reminds me to take breaks for fun.

I haven’t finalized my blogging schedule for the fall but as soon as I do, you will hear a lot more from me. I have some changes that I will share with you as soon as I get back to work.

Have a blessed Monday my friends!!
