Belinda’s Book Nook: Book Giveaway winner!

fairest-3

The winner of my first book giveaway is Angela. I will send this off to you or I can bring it to Jackson. I hope you enjoy it. I haven’t read mine yet but it’s in the reading queue.  Definitely thinking of reading it in March on the crafting weekend getaway.

Library Haul: Gemini and The Honest Life

february2015I know you know I love libraries by now. I talk about them often and I visit our local library weekly with my boys.

A few weeks back I saw the author, Carol Cassella being interviewed and I enjoyed her interview and thought I would like to read one of her books. In addition to her new role as author, she is a practicing anesthesiologist.  I did a quick search and found Oxygen in our local library. This one blurb in the dust-jacket also had me hooked:

A stranger’s life hangs in the balance, what if you had the power to decide if she lives or dies?

I also liked that the title was Gemini and having my June birthday makes me a Gemini so must read. I am enjoying it so far and I will leave a review when I complete it.

Now I have heard of this second book, The Honest Life by the actress Jessica Alba before and when I was walking around the stacks in the library it was on display so I thought I would check it out.

What I like so far about it, is that she isn’t telling you that you have to do everything she does but pick what’s right for you and she educates you on the many toxins in the everyday products we buy. So far, very enlightening. I will review this too when I finish. I think borrowing this from the library is making me read it more than I would if I bought it.  If I purchased it, I would start and forget about it. Since I have a due date, I feel more compelled to read more. This doesn’t mean I will complete it in time but I like the added pressure to make me commit.

So don’t forget your local libraries when you are thinking of a new read. I can’t imagine a future without libraries but every day another is closing. So please support them and their activities. Every little bit counts. If we all do our part, we can make a difference and continue to have this lovely institution.

Happy Reading!

Home Happenings: Laundry Lessons

laundrylessonsI decided that starting this passed weekend, I would begin laundry lessons for the boys. So since I wash their sheets on the weekend, I thought I would hand over that task to them. Nicholas of course did not sign off on me sharing his photo but Apollo didn’t mind. First thing he did was take the sheets off the bed which is a workout when you have bunk beds almost as bad as making them.

Step one, I explained what goes in each of the compartments in the drawer. I use Method laundry detergent and thought it would be easy to teach them how many pumps to use and let them go to work.

Well if you look closely, Apollo has no shirt on Step 4. Yup, a little wardrobe malfunction!  No, he squirted his sleeve on one attempt to put it in the bin. So he had to add it to the load!!

I forgot to take a picture of him loading the dryer but overall I think it was a success. Nicholas grumbled as expected but I am making it a standing rule that on Saturday or Sunday, they must strip their bed of their sheets and do the whole thing without me. A great help it will be and they will learn how to use the machine.  One less dirty look I might receive from their future wives!!

Have a great day my friends!

Project Life: week four

projectlifelogo1

week4aWeek four was a great week. I took the boys to Barnes and Noble for Martin Luther King’s Birthday to look at books. I love the picture of Apollo in his own world with a book on the floor in the bookstore. This was also the Readathon weekend and I smile when I see the selfie of Nicholas and I with our books. He was trying to give me rabbit ears!  After the Readathon, Leao decided to introduce Apollo to circuits. So he was so excited when the final step led to the little green light coming on.

week4I am really enjoying using this page protector with the three large 4×6 portrait oriented photos.

week4bI was so excited I could shrink down the picture of the yummy scones to place on this 3×4 card. The sentiment is spot on! Yummy!

week4cI am not a big fan of my handwriting but I liked making small photos to include information on my One Little Word project which is very important to me. I really want to educate myself more on charitable giving opportunities and humanitarian injustices. I want to find my way to what I can do to help.

week4rightPage two was really fun. I think this is one of my favorite page protectors so far. I like the flow of it. I included a picture of my ‘Wizard’ and love that they will both still like dressing up. I also included my continued love of smoothies with a photo of the way I prepare bananas for freezing and a picture of one of my new favorites, Orange Goji. One of my OLW goals was more connection with family and bringing back Family Game Nights was one of the best things I have done. We play once we finish dinner. It’s a nice way to end the day. Lately Old Maid has become a favorite.

week4dThis boy keeps me laughing. Look how he puts “Bee” his bear on his head while he reads. He had him there the whole time.  It was so funny, I had to capture it on camera.

Overall a great week with lots of memories to cherish.

I will be back next week with week five.

Happy crafting!
