Happy Birthday Nicholas!

Yesterday was Nicholas’ birthday. I was running around and wasn’t able to put up a post.  He doesn’t like me to put him on my blog anymore so I am refraining from using any photos with his handsome little face in them.  So all I am left with are cake pictures.

Yesterday he turned 11. Can you believe it? I can’t.  It seems like yesterday I was running back and forth to the doctor (I had to be on bedrest) to make sure my baby boy and I were alright.

Everyone tells you how fast it goes and you shrug it off but then you blink and your baby is grown. Sometimes I even find myself thinking about how sad I will be when he goes away to college. The self-inflicted torture must stop.

Anyway, my inlaws and brother-in-law came over this weekend to help with the continued construction of the studio (what you and I would call a clubhouse) for the boys. They laid the foundation in June and then summer fun got in the way so now they have begun the work again in order to complete it before the bad weather comes. I will post photos soon of the process. It is amazing and I am so proud of my husbands ability to make something so amazing.

So since they couldn’t be here on Monday to celebrate. We celebrated with them on Saturday night and then on Monday we celebrated with him and took him to dinner.

My mother-in-law made the cake. Now you all know I love paper crafts, knitting, reading and gardening. But making a cake and decorating it…well let’s just say, I leave that to the professionals.  So she made the cake and decorated it with this soccer theme. It was so cute.

I wish for Nicholas a year full of fun adventures, growth and a lot of love.

I am going to go snuggle up with a book today because it’s one of those crawl under a blanket gloomy days outside.

Have a blessed day my friends.

A Peek Inside: Coloring, coloring and more coloring!!

Hello! OMG…where have I been? Why haven’t I been posting? These are truly valid questions. Which deserve some sort of response.  I am searching for a clever one but can’t find it.  I get swallowed up from time to time with transition periods and this is one of those times. The boys have been back in school for a few weeks  now and we are all trying to get in a good rhythm. I am trying to begin work on new products for my store but things seem to keep holding me back. Wait, is that leaves I see falling outside my window? NO!! Say it isn’t so. I love fall, shh.. it’s my favorite. I love the crisp air, the pretty leaves and let’s not forget the fall fashion (Love it!).  But raking I do not like.  So those leaves better stay put if they know what’s good for them. Oh and I digress.. Perhaps this is why I have not begun production for my shop. I keep getting in the way of myself. Procrastinating, procrastinating, and a little more.

However, today, you can see what I am working on in my craft room.  Coloring.  No it is not products for the store but I am revving my Mojo up with some practice with an online Copic Class. I find that sometimes I need a confidence booster to launch me into creating mode.  So that is what I am doing. Today I am practicing coloring techniques and color combinations.

I wonder what you are doing today?

Book Haul from the Used Book Superstore and Savers

Ok so I confess, I love books. already knew that huh?  Well, earlier this week, I had a book attack. I just needed to be in a bookstore.  So I drove to the Used Book Superstore and it conveniently has next to it, Savers.  Both places I have scored some great deals.  This time was no exception.

At the Used Book Superstore I only found one book, Angel Burn by L.A. Weatherly which is a young adult fantasy. It’s book two in a trilogy so I will have to keep my eyes peeled for book one and three. I usually don’t buy out of order but this copy was signed. So I snatched it up for $3.29.

I then headed over to Savers and that’s where the magic happened. I found two hard cover books in brand new condition and two soft covers.

  • My Name is Memory by Ann Brashares who wrote The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants as well as a new one called, “The Here and Now”.  This book is about reincarnation and the love that lasts a lifetime. It sounds like a nice snuggle under the blanket fall day kind of book.
  • Savage Girl by Jean Zimmerman is  a tale from the author of The Orphanmaster about a wild girl from Nevada who lands in Manhattan’s Gilded Age society. The cover is so amazing on this book, I just can’t wait to dive in.
  • Huntress by Malinda Lo is the adventure prequel to Lo’s highly acclaimed novel Ash and is overflowing with lush Chinese influences and details inspired by the I Ching, and is filled with action and romance. Sounds like a fun read. The cover is beautiful on this book and let’s face it, I like kick-ass female leads.
  • The Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray is the first The Gemma Doyle Trilogy.  It is a young adult historical fiction set in the Victorian Age. I am thrilled to check out the first in the series to see if I should venture further.

If you read any of these books let me know what you think.

Well now I am off to go heat up some tea and continue reading my current bookclub selection, “Strength in What Remains by Tracy Kidder. I will leave a review soon.

Happy reading!

Project Life: Major Catchin’ Up Time!!

majorcatchupWhat???Behind!!!!!….yup I’m behind on my Project Life. What happened you say?  Life.

I am taking the glass half full approach and going to praise myself for the work that I have done, rather than the months I have not.  This year I took a different approach and think it for the most part has been very helpful.

My dear friend, Ashley and I have a virtual scrap every Saturday morning that we call our Craft Hour from 9:30-11.  We both grab our tea (think she has coffee) and check in at 9:30 and send a picture of our desk and which week we plan to work on.  Ideally it would be the past week but we didn’t start doing this until we were both behind.  Then at the end of the time we send a picture of our completed work. It has been so much fun. She lives far away so we cherish the time even if we aren’t sitting next to each other.

But life has managed to get in the way and I fell behind big time. So I decided to order a big batch of photos (May, June,July) and plow through it. They just came today so I am going through and sticking them into their appropriate week and then I will go back and embellish and add the journaling. The goal is to complete this by the end of this month. It’s still a rather lofty goal but I got to aim high.

When I finish with the album, I will make some videos to share the work in it’s entirety.

Are any of you working on Project Life and if so, are you being like me?

Well I am off but I hope you have a blessed day!
