Annual Girlfriend Craft Retreat!

Hello my people! I hope you all had a great weekend and for those on the East Coast, I wish you well and hope you find a way past all the snow that came down.
craftretreat2016Each year, as many of you know, I go away with my crafty girlfriends for four days of fun.  It is usually up in Jackson, New Hampshire at the prettiest Inn. But this year, I have a scheduling conflict and will be in New Jersey at my best friend’s wedding. So I quickly reached out to my friend Ashley and we decided to room together for the annual event that takes place in Sturbridge, MA.  Six of us met at the hotel and had so much fun.

We went out to the see the movie, “Sisters” on Thursday night and then off to dinner.

craftretreat2016eWe ate two times at the most delicious restaurant and then the rest of the meals were included with our craft retreat.

There are so many reasons why I stick to my annual retreat. For one, I believe it’s important for moms to have ‘away time’ to recharge. Just as professors have sabbaticals, all moms should have creative retreats.   I also find that time away crafting and laughing, resets my creative mojo. There’s something about the act of being around so much creative talent and having no one else but myself to care for that re-ignites my creative spark.

Ideas start flow more easily. I get inspired to try new techniques. For example, I often shy away from putting clouds on my cards for silly reasons but this weekend, instead of creating them with distress ink pads, I tried something new – I used a template I cut out myself and my Copic markers to create the effect on this card and I really like the results.craftretreat2016f

Crafting truly heals my soul and this retreat was no exception. I left with some completed craft projects and a sense of delight at all the possibilities.

craftretreat2016hIt was a fun weekend. Just what the doctor’s order for all moms!! I say moms but you don’t need to be a mom to benefit from a retreat with friends, you just have to have the courage to make the reservation! I will be back this week with some other fun posts so stop on by!

Have a blessed day friends!

Mini Album Project – Choose Happy!

Choose Happy!

Choose Happy!

Hi Everyone!  I thought I would share one of the projects I completed last week on my craft retreat. I haven’t been doing much scrapbooking beyond Project Life and I haven’t made a mini album in a very long time. So this was a really fun project to create. I bought the base for this mini album at  Joann’s a long time ago on clearance. So I gathered it and added some paper from my 6×6 paper packs. The one I used most of was from My Mind’s Eye ‘ Indie Chic – Nutmeg’.  I am on an aqua kick right now so I kept the palette to aqua and a few other colors. I even painted the mini close pins to match.

I will put the pictures in now that I am home.

I also used some sticker elements from Echo Park’s ‘For the Record’.

I also used one of my girlfriend’s Stampin Up stamps to create the little hearts you see in there.

I love all the little pockets and the bicycle is so stinkin’ cute.

The colors are a mixture of serene from the blue and muted browns to pure energy from the golden yellow colors.

I also used doilies for added dimension.

I can’t wait to put some photos in those little “Polaroid frames.

One of my favorite elements are the wooden man and woman. I just love them.

I didn’t realize there were so many pages in this little book.

Can’t wait to put something in that glassine envelope.

I am thinking of using only black and white photos so as not to compete with the color scheme.

I will share more projects in the days to come so do stop by soon.

Have a blessed day!

Good Morning Monday!

The views while riding with my girl Ashley!

Hello!!! Happy Monday!  I know many of you are thinking Monday isn’t typically your favorite day of the week. I’m thinkin’ Friday is more like a day to celebrate.  Well I am feeling rejuvenated after 4 days away on a craft retreat with my girlfriends.  So this isn’t my typical Monday mood but I am going to enjoy it anyway.

Almost there.

Almost there.

Every year, for the past 4 years we all drive to New Hampshire to a very charming Inn for relaxing, crafting and a whole lot of laughing. This year it was  20 of us that made the trek and it did not disappoint.  The food was amazing and the views just bring you to that happy place.

I really enjoyed walking around and seeing all the projects everyone was working on during our time away.  As usual, I brought more than I managed to complete but that’s alright, I did managed to get stuff done and have a lot of fun while doing it. So that is the important thing. In past years, I use to race through to see how many pages I could complete while away but I took an entirely different approach and let things play out and worked freely on a variety of things, some I completed, some I did not but I feel okay with that.

Ok I confess, I ate two more of those chocolate covered strawberries!

I will be sharing some of the projects I worked on over the next few days.

I hope you all had a great weekend and I hope you have  a blessed week!
