This year, the weather forecast made for a very different independence day. We packed up as usual and headed early to Vovo and Papa’s house to avoid the heavy downpours that was predicted. The fireworks were moved up a day so they happened on July 3rd instead of the 4th at the Esplanade in Boston. We always watch them from my in-laws deck and on TV to see the performances. So we ended up watching New York’s fireworks on July 4th. It just wasn’t the same. We couldn’t grill on the 4th as usual.
When I sat to write this post, I was going to whine about it but the most important thing was that we were able to be with family. We were all together, even if it was pouring outside. We talked and laughed and the next day, July 5th was the date of Cape Verdian (my husband’s heritage) Independence from the Portuguese. So we were still able to have a celebration with grilling, games, painting and bubbles. Lots’ of bubbles, courtesy of my friend Cathy. She gave them to me for the boys.
So now, I am rethinking my whine and appreciative of the opportunity to celebrate and be with family.
I hope you had a great day!
You guys look so happy! Glad you made the best of the lousy weather!
It was fun. The weather was gorgeous on the 5th. So we made the best of the situation.
