It’s Here!!!

winterHello my booklover friends! I am so excited today because one of my most anticipated books of the year that I pre-ordered arrived on my doorstep this morning. Today, the next and I believe final book in the Lunar Chronicles was released. I am jumping up and down with serious book love right now.

I can’t wait to see what will happen next.  I am also pleased that the book is a chunker. So that means I can stay in that world a little longer. I am currently reading a book club book and have about 100 pages left so I am going to crank it into high gear so I can start Winter tomorrow.

The beauty of pre-ordering with Amazon is the price and that they arrive on your doorstep the same day the stores release them.  I didn’t even have to leave the comfort of my home.  Simply divine!

I have a couple of reviews I will be posting soon and definitely will review Winter when I complete it. Today is amazing!

Sending blessings your way,

Belind

Belinda’s Book Nook Review: Never, Never by Brianna Shrum

NeverNever

Title: Never, Never
Author: Brianna Shrum
Copyright: September 22, 2015
Genre: fiction, fantasy
Format: book  Pages: 368

Synopsis (from Goodreads):

James Hook is a child who only wants to grow up.

When he meets Peter Pan, a boy who loves to pretend and is intent on never becoming a man, James decides he could try being a child—at least briefly. James joins Peter Pan on a holiday to Neverland, a place of adventure created by children’s dreams, but Neverland is not for the faint of heart. Soon James finds himself longing for home, determined that he is destined to be a man. But Peter refuses to take him back, leaving James trapped in a world just beyond the one he loves. A world where children are to never grow up.

But grow up he does.

And thus begins the epic adventure of a Lost Boy and a Pirate.

This story isn’t about Peter Pan; it’s about the boy whose life he stole. It’s about a man in a world that hates men. It’s about the feared Captain James Hook and his passionate quest to kill the Pan, an impossible feat in a magical land where everyone loves Peter Pan.

Except one.

My Thoughts:

OK, so a few weeks ago I told you about my excitement about two pre-ordered books arriving on my doorstep. I love books but there is something absolutely special about getting a book the day it is released and actually reading it then.  I had heard about Never, Never on another book bloggers’ site and decided I wanted to read it. Growing up, I have seen numerous movie adaptations of Peter Pan, and there is even another currently in theaters called, “Pan”. But none take the story from the perspective of Captain Hook. So the synopsis had me hooked (come on, you know I had to do it at least once).

The book drew me in at the start and then slowed a bit and then picked up again…  I was consumed by the story, and had a deep need to see where the story would go. I really loved the way the author developed Hook’s character. It made me understand why Hook was the way he was. In the typical story, Peter Pan was so easy to love. But in this story, I found myself drawn to Hook and wishing him well. I also think the author did a great job of developing the world of Never Never and filling it with key characters.

Each day, I would go to pick-up, an extra 5 minutes earlier, to squeeze in more reading time.  So when I tell you I am only giving this book 3 butterflies, you might scratch your head and say, “Why?”. Well let me explain: All of the things I previously wrote about this book is true. However, the end of the book was a let down, in that it left me with so many unanswered questions, and it felt rushed compared to the pacing throughout the rest of the book. So for those reasons I am giving this book 3 butterflies.

I will be back soon with some more reviews.

Happy Reading!

On my nightstand: Spooky reads

spookyreads1

Hello Everyone,

I thought I would share with you what’s currently on my nightstand. I want to join in the fun and find a book in my possession that would fall under spooky reads. I haven’t read a thriller since I was in high school. I am pretty much a chicken when it comes to horror. But I thought since Halloween is this month, a spooky read might be fun. It’s time to leave my comfort zone and go exploring.  I had bought, “Daughters of Gods and Shadows” by Jayde Brooks a long while back and thought it would work nicely. I am also excited to read a debut black author in the genre of Fantasy. This is book one in a trilogy and lucky me, the second book in the trilogy is coming out November 17 and it is called, “City of Dark Creatures”. So I could marathon through book two once I finish.

daughterofgodsandshadows

This book is about:

Eden Reid is not interested in prophesy. The problem is that a doozy of a prophesy is bearing down on her. Such is the case when you’re a twenty-four-year-old from Brooklyn, New York who is about to discover she is an ancient god. A truly powerful one. And with power comes problems.
A truly formidable demon is gunning for her; a zombie-like pandemic is spreading across the country, creating creatures who are hungry for flesh, fast on their feet and clever; and there is the mysterious, handsome stranger with powers of his own who claims to have been her lover from a time and a life that Eden cannot remember. He promises to help awaken her powers for the upcoming war. A war where there is only one prize: survival…in Daughter of Gods and Shadows from debut author Jayde Brooks.

If I finish it quickly, I will read, “Hollywood Witch Hunter” by Valerie Tejeda  which is an ebook on my Kindle.

witchhunter

This book is about:

From the moment she first learned the truth about witches…she knew she was born to fight them.
Now, at sixteen, Iris is the lone girl on the Witch Hunters Special Ops Team.
But when Iris meets a boy named Arlo, he might just be the key to preventing an evil uprising in Southern California.
Together they’re ready to protect the human race at all costs. Because that’s what witch hunters do.
Welcome to Hollywood.

This one is suppose to be a fast-paced fun book. It is only 99 cents on Amazon right now if you need another spooky read.

Happy Spooky Reading!!

Happy Mail: Some pre-orders have arrived!

preorderSept22Oh wow! It never gets old I tell you. I love when new books arrive on my doorstep. It’s such a great feeling.

Well two of my pre-orders arrived yesterday.  I mentioned a description of both in yesterday’s post. I am really excited to jump right in and read them.  I started reading Never Never yesterday and will be sure to post my thoughts once I complete it.

The beauty of pre-orders is that they arrive on your doorstep the exact day they are released. The best part is if you pre-order new books, you pay literally a fraction of the price it will cost after it’s released in stores.

Happy reading!

Belinda
