Spring – New Year’s for Nature

Don't you just love bulbs? Work once and years of beauty

Don’t you just love bulbs? Work once and years of beauty

Spring is such a special time of year. It’s like New Year’s for nature. What do I mean by that you say? Well it’s the time all the perennials get another opportunity to grow and bloom.  So as soon as I can, I walk around like the garden detective and look for signs of growth.

I hold my breath when I go to locations where some of my prized plants are to come like my peonies.  I start to envision what I want for the upcoming season. What colors speak to me this year, what new plants I want to try.

Watching the birds and the bees at work in my yard is always a fun thing and I am trying to expose the boys to these joys in hopes that they will have a spring ritual with nature when they have a home of their own. Whether it be to tend a garden or simply to observe the wildlife in their space.  It’s all very magical to witness.

The sound of birds singing in our yard is so sweet and the two times a day we hear the Canadian geese heading to the lake and then heading home is also a favorite time for me.  They have their own commuting schedule – to the lake in the morning and home in the afternoon.

I am late to plan my veggie garden but choosing to ease up this year and not fuss as much so that I can enjoy it more.  So I will head to the garden center to purchase some veggies later this week.

I hope you are having a nice spring and taking time to notice the little things in nature that really add beauty to our lives.

Have a blessed day!

Happy Earth day 2013

It’s been too long since I have posted.  Last week was school vacation for the boys so I naturally was swept away providing them with plenty to experience. We went to the Cape for a bit and then we came back and did fun things at home which included a fun dig for dinosaur bones.

My only suggestion with this dinosaur kit was that they should have told me how long it takes to actually find all the bones.  Each of  them took turns but I was left to bring us home and it was messy and rather time consuming.

Today is Earth day which is usually a really great time to remind the boys how much we are connected to everything including our planet. This morning when I dropped them off at school I reminded them it is Earth Day and Apollo said, “Mom, everyday is Earth Day (Can you say proud mommy moment?).

Getting closer

Getting closer

But this year, I celebrate with a heavy heart. A week ago today, tragedy struck our city of Boston and once again things will never be the same.  We are left with unanswered questions and deep sadness.  So today when I walk in my garden and watch the birds at my feeders, I will say a prayer for all those affected and for guidance to heal our hearts.

My Easter Basket

My little Easter basket.

My little Easter basket.

Hi Everyone! I hope you had a nice weekend. We spent time with family which is always great. While surfing the web I came across a wonderful Easter basket I just had to make. It is from one of my favorite digital artists, Saturated Canary. I followed the YouTube instructions and it only required a few supplies to make.

My camera! Can you see it?

I ended up making this one for me and it is perfect to hold my jelly beans.  I also thought I would show you my new Pandora bead I received for Easter – a camera. Can you see it? It is so cute and it is so me. I am always with camera.

Well I hope you try making these baskets. They can be for any occasion and they are super easy! to make.

Have a blessed day!

Mini Album Project – Choose Happy!

Choose Happy!

Choose Happy!

Hi Everyone!  I thought I would share one of the projects I completed last week on my craft retreat. I haven’t been doing much scrapbooking beyond Project Life and I haven’t made a mini album in a very long time. So this was a really fun project to create. I bought the base for this mini album at  Joann’s a long time ago on clearance. So I gathered it and added some paper from my 6×6 paper packs. The one I used most of was from My Mind’s Eye ‘ Indie Chic – Nutmeg’.  I am on an aqua kick right now so I kept the palette to aqua and a few other colors. I even painted the mini close pins to match.

I will put the pictures in now that I am home.

I also used some sticker elements from Echo Park’s ‘For the Record’.

I also used one of my girlfriend’s Stampin Up stamps to create the little hearts you see in there.

I love all the little pockets and the bicycle is so stinkin’ cute.

The colors are a mixture of serene from the blue and muted browns to pure energy from the golden yellow colors.

I also used doilies for added dimension.

I can’t wait to put some photos in those little “Polaroid frames.

One of my favorite elements are the wooden man and woman. I just love them.

I didn’t realize there were so many pages in this little book.

Can’t wait to put something in that glassine envelope.

I am thinking of using only black and white photos so as not to compete with the color scheme.

I will share more projects in the days to come so do stop by soon.

Have a blessed day!
