Tea Time Tuesday: It’s all Green Today with a side of News!

dec8_2015

Hello!  Wow, it is so dark and gray outside, that it  looks like rain or a major snow storm is upon us. Thankfully none of the above. Just gray and gloomy.  But oh so perfect for tea time.

Today, I chose a Green tea I bought from Wenham teahouse last spring. It’s called Cherry blossom Green tea. I steeped it about 3 minutes and headed up to my nook for a look at last Sunday’s newspapers. The tea is so soothing while I take in the current events.

I used have a Boston Globe subsription and then it began to be too much so I now purchase them a couple times a month. I also enjoy the New York Times so I bought both this past Sunday. What I do is pick out what sections I like and read them bit by bit throughout the week. Some weeks, I am a success and other weeks I get caught up and only one or two articles get read.

I tend not to to watch news on the television, because 90% is about death and morbid and I have young children in the house. I like reading news so that I can focus on integrity verses the onslaught of   sensationalism that is dominating our daily news channels. I also subscribe to The Washington Post on my Kindle and read a bit each day.  I enjoy the interactive elements in their articles. Another online resource I read is The Christian Science Monitor. I first must say I am a bit biased since I worked there for many years. But the quality and integrity of the reporting is top of the line.

I am going to go finish my tea and read another article before I head out to pick up my boys.

Hope you grabbed a cup of tea today!

Tea Time Tuesday!

dec1_2015a

Hello Everyone! Happy holidays! Today is a perfect time to start a new blog series, Tea Time Tuesday (3Ts). The weather outside is gray and cold and the perfect weather for tea. I am a confessed tea addict for sure and since I share many of my loves on this blog, I thought I might as well share this one too.

Yesterday, while shopping at TJ Maxx, I found this tea mug that captured two of my loves (reading and tea) and had to have it. I think people in the store thought I was a crazy lady because I picked it up quickly and did a little happy dance with a squeal. It’s like the tea goddess placed it there just for me!

Today I am having it with a few of my favorite seasonal cookies from Trader Joes.  The tea I am drinking is a new one from Teavana. It is called, “Maharaja Chai Oolong.

Maharaja Chai Oolong:

The rich, heady spices of India mingle with the royal splendor of oolong tea in this blend inspired by the legendary Spice Route. Cinnamon, ginger, cloves, carob and cardamom lead the sensory journey that begins with the first aroma of this robust chai. (caffeine is 1-15mg)

I like Oolong tea which is a native tea from China. I usually have it with a splash of milk and honey. Masala Chai is my favorite tea and it’s origin is India. I love the blend of spices in it.  So this Maharaja Chai Oolong tea is a nice blend of both. There is a nice strong cinnamon taste, that is present in Oprah’s chai at Starbucks.

I hope you’re having cup of tea today! I”ll be back next week with another Tea Time Tuesday.

Cleanse Program: Part Deux!!

cleanchallengeRound2Well last May, I did my first cleanse and really felt great after completing the 21-day Clean Gut Challenge.  I really enjoyed the new recipes I learned along the way and I liked how I felt.  So about a month ago, I decided I wanted to repeat a cleanse every 6 months to make sure I regularly detox my body. So since the last one was in May, November became the next time for me to do it again. I decided I would start November 1st so that I would not have to cry my way through Thanksgiving. So I will complete this cleanse on November 21.

I thought I would buy a few new things to get me ready. I love this multicolor pen by Yoobi from Target. It reminds me of a similar type of pens from my childhood. I loved the ability to write with one pen so many colors and this one has even more colors. The page flags are for my reading. I like to use them to mark great quotes or things I want to remember in my books. I found this great ‘Fit Happens’ book at TJ Maxx and it is so perfect for me to journal my experience each day as well as track my food and exercise.cleanchallengeRound2aThis cleanse really tries to take a more wholistic approach by not only food but overall wellness. So I like how this book has a place for me to write three things I am grateful for each day.  And one of my favorite aspects of the book is the quotes. Each they have the most amazing quotes to help motivate.cleanchallengeRound2bSo today is day one and I had my breakfast smoothie and really enjoyed it. It had two dates in it to add sweetness (something I have never done before) but it tasted really nice and kept me full for quite a long time.day1aI woke up early and after I made my smoothie I started preparing the ingredients for my soup for dinner tonight. I soaked the beans overnight and cut up the vegetables this morning.day1bI tasted it before packing up a serving to go with me to our weekly visit with my in-laws and it tasted really good. Then I started work on my lunch which was an Asian Turkey wrap.day1cThen once this cooked up I could eat them for lunch wrapped in Boston lettuce.day1cdI very much enjoyed lunch and look forward to dinner which all I will need to do now is heat it up.

One thing I learned from the from the first cleanse is the importance of planning. So yesterday I took the time to pick my recipes and smoothies for week one. Then I used an application called Evernote to put in my week’s menu. I also created a master grocery list so I could buy all of this week’s foods. I used the Clean cookbook for my dinner recipe for today. I have enough for several leftovers so now I don’t need to cook every night. I also have enough of my lunch meal to last a few days so the only thing I have to make daily is my smoothies. That way I can focus on my family’s meals with ease. planningI use a notepad to write out the ingredients needed for each meal I plan to eat and where I can find the directions to make them. Then I go through and check off what I already have before making my master grocery list on my phone. I am ready Week One!planning2I will post from time to time my struggles and progress throughout the three weeks.

Happy Clean eating my friends!

Happy Birthday Mummy!

mummyHappy Birthday Mummy!!

This is a very old picture of my mum and I. I wonder what was so funny?

Today is my mum’s birthday. Although it’s been eight years since she passed on, I continue to feel her presence daily in my interactions with the boys, when I spend time in my garden, when I am creating in my craft room and especially with my decisions on how I chose to live my life.

I try to do my best to keep her spirit alive for my boys through talks.  I don’t want it to be taboo to talk about people that have passed on. I welcome the questions, even if at times they are difficult. I have even slowly resumed my genealogy quest which brings back photos and more stories to share with them.

How do you let go of someone so important in your life? I can’t. I miss her dearly and continue to go through an array of emotions from anger, sadness and some days I even find peace with this major loss.

I know I will not stop celebrating her many achievements or her birthday. So today I will pause a little longer to remember that on this day, the most amazing woman in my life was born.

Love you,

Belinda
