What’s on Your Workdesk Wednesday #572

on my desk…

Hello, my crafty friends! It’s Wednesday and you know what time it is. Time to snoop. For those of you that aren’t familiar with WOYWW (What’s On Your Workdesk Wednesday), head on over to Julia’s Stamping Ground and you will find desks from all around the world where we get to snoop on other crafter’s desks.

Happy Anniversary friends! Wow, if I remember correctly I joined WOYWW 8 years ago in 2012! It’s been a really great experience for me and I have valued the opportunity to meet crafters abroad. It has continued to be something I look forward to each week. I don’t remember how I learned about Julia and her desk travels but I am so glad I found her. I have always felt nothing but warmth and acceptance as a member of this group and never take it for granted. Now enough of that mushy stuff, let’s talk about my desk today.

So our task was to find a UFO and complete it and then share it with the group. Well lets just say that I had no shortage of UFOs. Choosing was another story. I decided to finish a project I started almost a year ago and it’s these really cool safari cards. I had seen crafter Jennifer McGuire demonstrate a cool watercoloring technique with paint and plastic wrap. So I completed that part of the process and dropped it like a hot potato as soon as another craft haul arrived in the mail. Which is usually the case. I have a bit of ADD when it comes to focusing on projects! You can see the first shot of my desk above with the panels complete and all the rest of the supplies.

Next step ws to die cut the African trees out of white and black cardstock. I forgot how much fun it is diecuting. I managed to get 10 trees per sheet which I think is really good. It leaves little waste of paper.

I kept a couple of the sheets I cut the tree out of and was thinking of using them as stencils with my distress inks for another card design in the future.

I placed the tree on the watercolored panel and stamped the grass first and then the giraffes. I had to use my stamping tool so that I could go over it so I could get a crisp color.

Below is the final card. I only made one but now that I have completed one, I can make the others much more quickly. I am really happy how it came out.

Another project I completed is a coloring page I showed all earlier this year.

I used my new neocolor water colors to color in the sky and watet and Prisma’s for the rest. I liked this idea of revisting our UFOs and will have to keep at it.

I will leave you with a picture of me out in my garden this week, weeding a section in my garden. The weather is finally beautiful and it is great being out in the fresh air for long periods of time.

Stay well and keep craftying my friends!

Belinda

  3. What an amazing idea of making a stencil out of the diecuts!! .. I love the African theme a lot and that gave me inspiration to my own I guess 😉 Glad you were able to get outside as well!!

  4. Hi Belinda. Happy 11th anniversary. Fantastic backgrounds there, and a great finished card. Well done. Yes, it is good to be out in the fresh air, isn’t it? I love the first few times I go out after winter.. Glorious. It has been about the hottest day of the year so far, and now there is a sea mist, so everywhere is looking VERY hazy – at one point I couldn’t see across the valley – about a mile!
Take care. Stay safe. God bless.

  6. Love that set of stamps Belinda, perfect composition isn’t it great when we create something we can reproduce time after time. Glad you have been playing with your neocolours such a versatile mark maker, lovely colour washed sky.

  7. Hi Belinda, yes, I too have the problem of deciding which of my UFO mountain to pick to work on! Love your card, really beautiful. I also sometimes keep the off cut from die cutting to use as a stencil or mask. Comes in handy sometimes. I’m a big fan of Jennifers, she’s probably part of the reason I have so many UFO’s, lol. Have a lovely week, Stay safe, Hugs, Shaz #12 XxxX

  16. sorry to be so late! OMG I made a bunch of cards using that technique, I loved it. And now I remember it again, thanks to you! Your African skies are beautiful, and despite the number left, I hope you enjoy using them now that you’ve ‘dragged’ them out, that tree is a lovely die, I must say. Love the completely anonymous photo of you gardening! I thin k if I didn’t have a garden to potter in these last few weeks of lockdown would have been much harder. I’m not a keen or great gardener, but appreciate it all the more, for sure! Stay well!
