What’s on Your Workdesk Wednesday # 561

on my desk…

Hello everyone! I am late but determined to post this week. Last week I was laid out with the flu so now I’m trying to get back to some sort of routine. It hit me kind of fast last Monday after I dropped off my boys at school. I came home and went back to bed and then my temp spiked. I am much better now with a lingering cough which I suspect could be the dreaded beginning of allergy season! My dear husband took over last week like a champ so I could just rest and recoup. It was helpful to me but my boys did not welcome the interruption to their daily routines we have established. They are so thrilled that this week I was able to resume most of my activities.

On my desk you can see the traveler’s album, a beautiful get well card from my friend Joan, some fun St. Patrick’s Day glasses, a few practice charts for my One Little Word project, a beautiful black history mug that I got at Michael’s and some old stamps I had in my stash that I think I will use on this page.

For those of you that aren’t familiar with WOYWW (What’s On Your Workdesk Wednesday), head on over to Julia’s Stamping Ground and you will find desks from all around the world where we get to snoop on other crafter’s desks.

My desk was untouched last week and I had no energy to visit desks. But this week I am feeling so much better. I also wanted to share my latest obsession – I have decided I am going to rejoin the scrapbooking world. I used to scrapbook, years ago and then fell for cardmaking and that was all she wrote. I dropped scrapbooking like a bad date and never looked back. I still have friends that make wonderful albums but I just didn’t feel it anymore. However, I was inspired after watching a few videos on YouTube that people were creating scrapbooks with Travelers Journals. Over the winter break, I had snagged a few on clearance at Michaels and didn’t do anything with them. But I opened my messy craft closet with all the goodies in there and decided I am going to ease back into scrapbooking with this smaller medium (8 1/4 x 4 1/4).

Back to scrapbooking.

The journals are small so it’s less daunting than covering a 12×12 page. I grabbed one of my 12×12 paper pads because the paper is very thin and I have covered my first journal with some patterned paper and have begun to printing a few photos from January to begin documenting our life.

Something about rounded corners does it for me!

I think this will be an easier transition back into scrapbooking. I plan on using one traveler’s notebook per month and if I don’t have much that month I will make up new rules. What I want is to capture the memories of my family and what I don’t want is stress. It was a lot easier to do this when my boys were young and willing participants but I think I can find creative ways to incorporate them into my memory keeping.

What really excites me is that when I eventually clean out my craft closet, I am going to have a whole bunch of stash I can use up. So this return to scrapbook will have many benefits including speeding up my clean out process of that dreaded closet.

Anyway, I am rambling but I thought I would share what’s happening in my brain.

I hope you all are well and creating beautiful art!

Belinda

  1. great looking desk. Like you I just haven’t been into scrapbooks for awhile but started using those cards in 3 ring binders and the grand kids love them. Glad to hear you are feeling better! Keep on keeping on! Vickie #26

  2. Late is always better than not at all. I suspect that when you clean out the closet you’ll find things you didn’t know you had if you’re anything like me! Have a lovely creative woyww, Angela x2x

  3. I hope you enjoy your journey back into scrapbooking. It’s not something I ever got into. I decided to pop back to Julia’s before I head to bed, and found some more desks had linked. Happy WOYWW Helen #12

  4. Glad to hear that you are feeling a bit better Belinda. I like the idea of scrapbooking in a travellers journal. much less daunting than working in a 12″ x 12″ album. Happy belated WOYWW. Sarah #13

Hi Belinda, I flutter from cardmaking to scrapbooking and all sorts inbetween. Just depends what mood I am in and where my mojo takes me. Sometimes it takes me nowhere so I tidy up my crafty retreat. I too want to capture family memories, without the stress – but mine will definitely be 12×12 layouts – those are the only scrapbooks that I have! I have calligraphy, candle making, sewing and jewellery making all on the go as well, at various stages. I would definitely be a butterfly if I were reincarnated! Glad you are on the road to recovery from your bout of flu – never nice feeling under the weather. Have a lovely week Heather xx #21

  6. Hi Belinda. I’m with you…/ There is indeed something about rounded corners! I frequently use them – especially on my photos. Great neat desk today – mine is chaotic as I haven’t looked at it since Tuesday morning! Hope you soon feel fully recovered.
    Take care. God bless.

  7. Hi Belinda, popped back to thank you for the visit to mine and your lovely comments. My hubby and I were teachers before we retired and I understand the worries about your son’s education. Although we are retired my hubby still moderates Art work all over the country and as yet we don’t know exactly what is going to happen but the team are doing their annual training from home whereas normally they would have a meeting at Coventry so we’ll see what happens next. You take care and have a lovely week, Angela xXx
