30-Day Coloring Challenge – Day 1

Hello Everyone! I don’t know what I am thinking because June is a busy month but I am always up for a challenge. From June 1 – 30th is the 30-day coloring challenge created and hosted by none other than Kathy Racoosin at The Daily Marker. What I decided to do this time around is write a post three days in so that I have time to color, photograph and write a post before pushing it live. I also think I will limit this challenge only to colored pencils since I have some really amazing new coloring books that I absolutely have to color.  This is from Day 1 which was on Saturday. I convinced my youngest, to help me kick off the challenge by coloring with me.  He is coloring in one of my old coloring books that contain a bunch of mandalas. I helped him select a color scheme and he dove in. I think I will try to get him to color with me on another day too because although he didn’t want to admit it, he was having fun coloring and chatting with me. I chose the “In My Garden” coloring book. I am always discovering more about myself each time I sit to create. What I noticed was I gravitated to this smaller book to kick off the challenge. There is something comforting about a smaller canvas. It’s not too small it’s more of mid-range size about 8×8. So it’s fun to hold and easy to turn while coloring. I used one of my pre-made color swatches that I created a few weeks back to help me with my color selection. I find them so handy and when I use them the pages always look more cohesive.

I will be back tomorrow with day two.

Happy coloring!

Belinda

What’s on Your Workdesk Wednesday – #467

Good morning my crafty WOYWW friends! For those of you that aren’t familiar with WOYWW (What’s On Your Workdesk Wednesday),  head on over to Julia’s Stamping Ground and you will find desks from all around the world for What’s on Your Workdesk Wednesday where we get to snoop on other crafter’s desks.

I didn’t continue on the page I was coloring last week. I will get to it but with coloring, I tend to jump around a bit. I used to get worked up if I didn’t finish one page before starting another but I find that I am in a different mood each time I sit down to color and since right now I am itching to get into my garden I thought I would color flowers in another book. This book is called In My Garden and it’s illustrated by Jean Sanders.

Yesterday I decided to find a cutfile to create some cute spring decor in my craft room. I found this cute cherry blossom lantern cutfile. I had to dig thru and find some vellum in my paper stash to cut the sheets that would go behind the flowers. I decided to go with this bright fuschia colored paper to cut the base.

I can put electric votives in them at night for a pretty effect. But for now, I just like them as is and I decided to put them on my gallery wall.

One of my dear friends is coming to visit today so I won’t be able to visit all of your desks today but I will visit over the next few days.

Have a crafty day!

What’s on Your Workdesk Wednesday – #454

Hello Everyone and Happy Valentines Day! I haven’t posted a WOYWW post in months. Funny how time blows by and you don’t realize how long it’s been until you really focus. My son actually asked me when was the last time I posted on WOYWW and I was so thrilled that he brought it up, that I told him not for a while but I will this week.  He seemed to be happy about it. I think he likes the idea of peeking on desks around the world. So here I am.

For those of you that aren’t familiar with WOYWW (What’s On Your Workdesk Wednesday),  head on over to Julia’s Stamping Ground and you will find desks from all around the world for What’s on Your Workdesk Wednesday.

On my desk is one of my new coloring books. You can also see my new Kum pencil sharpener in the blue bowl which is my new favorite sharpener. It makes beautiful sharp points. You can also see a return address stamp I made on my Silhouette before Christmas to use on my Christmas cards. I loved it so much I ordered more stamping supplies!! You can also see mini envelopes I made (some for Valentine’s Day) with my WeRMemory Keepers Tab Punch Board. If you want to see more you can look here.

Over the last few months, I have been immersing myself in the world of colored pencils and adult coloring books. As some of you may know, I am a Copics girl and really have enjoyed coloring with them for years. But the beauty of the craft world is that there are so many mediums to explore to keep oneself happy for a lifetime and I thought this would be a nice skill to add to develop alongside my Copic skills. I realized that just as with Copics, there are papers and other products that can help to enhance the colored pencil experience. So I consider myself a newbie and have been loving watching videos on YouTube of people coloring and teaching techniques.

I have been learning what tools can help and how to use the pencils to create different effects. Being a crafter, I know the learning will be slow and remain patient with the process. After all, it’s supposed to be relaxing. That said, If you look at the photo, I have one leaf left to color but for the life of me I am not sure what color to use. Any suggestions?

I will take some time today for the rest of this week peeking at desks. I can’t wait to see what you all are working on.

Sincerely,

Belinda

What’s on Your Workdesk Wednesday – #436

Well hello, my crafty peeps!! I’m back again with my desk that had some creeping clutter so I had to remove a few things so you could focus!!

Today before I begin work,  I am going to have mini colored pencils playtime.  I am finding that little blocks of time making it easier for me to do things I enjoy. Let’s see on my desk you can see my Copic Hexchart that is always there unless I go crafting with my girlfriends. Next to it are some Fall-die cuts I cut out on my Silhouette to use in my planner. Below that is a pretty little 6×6 pad of paper that I picked up for $2 last week when I went I go crafting with my girlfriends. It is called Vintage Wallpaper. The elephant case holds more colored pencils. I love elephants and this case had to be mine when I saw it at my local TJMaxx. I have a bowl of washi tape and on the lower right is my lovely Kindle. I carry it with me pretty much everywhere.I thought I would share a few pages from this amazing coloring book that I bought about a month ago. The pictures are large and has a mixture of detailed and large areas to color so that I won’t go totally insate!!
I still need to get inspiration to color in coloring books so I usually try to find real pictures of the subjects (in this case Egypt) to come up with color combos.
The cover is stunning and when I saw it in Barnes and Noble, I knew it had to be mine. I plan on slowly working my way through this one. I love that each page is only one-sided and the paper is very thick. You could color and then display them.

For those of you that aren’t familiar with WOYWW (What’s On Your Workdesk Wednesday),  head on over to Julia’s Stamping Ground and you will find desks from all around the world for What’s on Your Workdesk Wednesday.

Well back to work I go. I will visit many over the next few days. Have a blessed day and make time for creating!

Belinda
